$20K Mistake, Negreanu Beats Polk, NAPT Returns, & Guest Tom Orpaz EPT Barcelona Heater

$20K Mistake, Negreanu Beats Polk, NAPT Returns, & Guest Tom Orpaz EPT Barcelona Heater

On the latest PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway, Connor Richards, and Matt Hansen catch you up to speed on what's been happening at EPT Barcelona, Daniel Negreanu defeating Doug Polk on High Stakes Duel, and the return of PokerStars' North American Poker Tour (NAPT).

They also delve into the Global Poker US Poker Open (USPO), tell you about the first winner from the PokerStars Summer Series, cover two big hands involving pocket queens from the past week, and debate arguably the hottest topic of the week -- would you pay back $20K after a player grossly misread his hand and called off on the river (which actually happened on Hustler Casino Live)?

As for a guest, Connor and Matt were at EPT Barcelona and caught up with Tom Orpaz, a high-stakes real estate entrepreneur who in his spare time can be found grinding the EPT High Roller circuit. Orpaz, who made headlines in 2020 for purchasing the most expensive apartment in the world, went on a tear at EPT Barcelona that saw him winning €25,000 No-Limit Hold'em and €50,000 Super High Roller Second Chance for two trophies and over $1 million in winnings, proving he can hold his own among the top pros. PokerNews caught up with Orpaz, who has proven to be one of the most entertaining and talkative players on typically reserved High Roller Circuit.

    The Lock-In - Merit Western Series 2023

    The Lock-In - Merit Western Series 2023

This week, we are locked into the commentary booth at the Merit Poker Retro Series in North Cyprus.

Dara and David analyse the action in the $2200 Warm-Up and $5300 Highroller events as well as two wild high-stakes cash games.

The big topic under discussion is the Spanish tax situation and the way that it may affect EPT/Estrellas Barcelona. There are a few reasons to believe that overseas players may not be chased for tax on winnings but no clear cut assurances either so David and Dara explain the logic behind their decision to just play Estrellas week and forgo the higher buy-in tournaments.

There is also a discussion of the upcoming week-long Unibet Summer Knockout Festival (Aug 27-Sep 3) which spins into a chat about how the games on Unibet Poker are noticeably bigger than ever before. Obviously, David claims that it is because of his raw sex appeal but, sensibly, Dara offers other reasons.

The Chip Race - Season 18 - Episode 3 - Brian Rast Angela Jordison Jesse McKenzie Jim Reid

This week, we welcome WSOP and MSPT finalist Angela Jordison. We’ve got the second half of our Brian Rast interview. For strategy, we analyse a bubble spot with top Australian online pro Jesse ‘On The Mac’ McKenzie. Jim Reid stops by to discuss the recreational poker experience. Plus, Barry Carter is here with the news!

    The Lock-In - EPT Barcelona 2022

    The Lock-In - EPT Barcelona 2022

This week, we are locked in and eating out in the beautiful Catalan capital.

Dara and David turn on the cameras in their hotel suite to discuss the Estrellas week of the EPT Barcelona festival. The conversation begins with some chat about David’s 26th place finish in the record-breaking 6313 runner main event. The lads discuss two of David’s more interesting hand histories - a 7 high river bluff and a three street call down with Jack high.

Dara also cashed the main, as he did in the Seniors and he relayed some of the funnier goings on as players were unhappy about the late Day 1 finish and another player dropped his chips all over the floor.

Interspersed with some videos from the event, the party and the city, Dara and David cap things off with a post-brunch game of insults. Stay until the very end for the best ones!
