Zachary Carter: Former U.S. Attorney explains Trump’s historic arraignment

Zachary Carter: Former U.S. Attorney explains Trump’s historic arraignment

This week, former President Donald Trump surrendered to authorities and pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, related to alleged hush money payments made to two women during his 2016 presidential campaign. It marks the first time in U.S. history that a current or former president has ever faced criminal charges.

Zachary Carter, who previously served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District, joined Errol Louis to discuss the unprecedented event, as they focused on how the unsealed indictment appears to be much broader than just the Stormy Daniels case. They also discussed the intense pressure and scrutiny being placed on acting New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan, as he presides over this monumental case. And they got into Carter’s time as a U.S. Attorney.

Christine Quinn: mental health services in the shelter system

Christine Quinn: mental health services in the shelter system

There are over 71,000 people in New York City’s shelter system, including more than 13,000 families with children, a number that continues to climb as more migrants arrive in the five boroughs. Many in the system are escaping trauma, and they would benefit from mental health treatment.

The former speaker of the New York City Council, Christine Quinn, joined Errol to discuss the nonprofit entitled WIN, which she heads. WIN, which stands for Women in Need, is the largest provider of shelter and supportive housing for families in NYC, and Quinn is currently spearheading a proposal to require the Department of Homeless Services to offer mental health services at the 30 largest shelter systems in the city by 2024.

Their conversation also went on to cover the status of the New York Democratic Party since the gubernatorial election, as well as Quinn’s recent bout with cancer, and the importance of cancer awareness and early detection.

Cea Weaver: How to solve New York's housing crisis

Cea Weaver: How to solve New York's housing crisis

The housing crisis in New York has now reached epic proportions.

In her State of the State address, Gov. Kathy Hochul vowed affordable housing would be a top priority as she aims to build over 800,000 new homes over the next decade.

Meanwhile, Mayor Eric Adams has stated he’s looking to expand affordable housing through incentives for developers and preserving existing below-market units.

Cea Weaver, who co-founded the Housing Justice for All coalition, joined Errol to talk through the different ways of tackling the current crisis in New York. Their conversation covered Cea’s experience living both upstate and downstate and how it’s important for both regions of New York to be understood and properly represented in the housing debate.

They also discussed Hochul’s new housing initiative and the ideas behind the so-called good cause eviction protections. Additionally, they both weighed in on the concept of non-reformist reform.

    What’s next for George Santos?

    What’s next for George Santos?

Rep. George Santos started his first term in Congress representing parts of Long Island and Queens with a resume which has been proven to be a series of lies. While his fellow Republicans in Congress have avoided criticizing his, Santos is now being attacked by some of his fellow New York Republicans.

Meanwhile, Santos’ presence on Capitol Hill has also been the subject political drama and he's been pursued daily by reporters who want answers.

Errol sat down with NY1 political reporter Emily Ngo and NY1 Washington correspondent Kevin Frey in an attempt to make sense of this unprecedented situation.

After that, Errol talked to Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman, who along with Rep. Richie Torres, recently filed an official complaint with the House Ethics Committee about Santos. Goldman explained the investigation is necessary because Republicans have remained so quiet about the extensive allegations against Santos.

Susan Arbetter: Hochul and Zeldin come out swinging in Spectrum News debate

This week, incumbent Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul and her Republican challenger, Rep. Lee Zeldin, squared for the first and likely only time in a televised gubernatorial debate hosted by Spectrum News NY1.

Moderators Errol Louis and Susan Arbetter of Spectrum News' "Capital Tonight" weighed in on the highlights of the showdown, including the candidates' extremely different policy views in a race that is tighter than many people anticipated.

Hochul and Zeldin sparred over issues such as abortion, crime, and pay-to-play allegations. Errol and Susan break it all down and offer their insights.

In case you missed it, you can listen to the entire debate immediately after their discussion.

Michael Cohen: Talking Trump with his ex-attorney

Michael Cohen: Talking Trump with his ex-attorney
Michael Cohen rose to fame as Donald Trump’s attorney and worked in the Trump organization for over a decade. In 2018, after things disintegrated between the two men, Cohen found himself in a heap of legal trouble which eventually landed him in rison and cost him his ability to practice law. He’s since emerged as an author and a commentator. His brand new book, “Revenge: How Donald Trump Weaponized the US Department of Justice Against His Critics," discusses Cohen’s experiences with Donald Trump, and serves as a warning of what may lie ahead.

Cohen sat down with Errol Louis for a fascinating and candid discussion about his years with the ex-president, Trump’s business practices, and predictions for what his future in politics might look like. They also acknowledged how Cohen’s testimony helped lead to the recent investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The conversation then touched on Trump’s mistreatment of many members of the Republican Party, as well as his unique ability to hone in on people's weaknesses and exploit them.

Episode 169 - Game Changer: Uncommon Success

Episode 169 - Game Changer: Uncommon Success
As humans, we can’t help but to compare ourselves to the person next to us. We can’t help but to wonder why we are not making as much as the same colleague that graduated with us at the same time with the same degree, why we don’t have the same body as the athletic person next to us at the gym when we workout harder, and why we’re still single while the next not-so-good-looking person is happily married. With us today, we have Mary Spio, author of “It's Not Rocket Science: 7 Game-Changing Traits for Uncommon Success.” Please welcome Mary as we dive into some of the most important traits you need to have in order to really fill your shoes and live out your best potential.

    Episode 168- Wired to Connect

    Episode 168- Wired to Connect
Society today likes to enforce self-sufficiency and people praise those that are independent. People say that the happiest people are those that don’t care what others say as long as you have a strong sense of self. Parents assume they’ve succeeded in raising their children when they no longer need their support. We are quick to say that we shouldn’t need other people to ‘complete’ us but today we have Amy Banks, author of “Wired to Connect” with us to prove otherwise. Relationships aren't the ‘icing’ on the cake – a healthy relationship IS the cake.

Episode 167- The Power of Forgiveness

Episode 167- The Power of Forgiveness

We are angry but we don't know why, we easily get hurt by what others say and we don't know why, we are quick to judge and we don't know why - have you ever stopped to wonder if possibly you harbored such attributes due to the very fact that there is some forgiving that needs to be done? Tune in as we have guest Joan Gattuso join us!
