Persistence in Publication and Having Fun Creatively with Adam D. Jones

    "Clarity is important."

Do you feel like there is a story inside of you that desperately needs to be told? Have you always wanted to publish a book, but felt discouraged by the difficulties of the publishing industry?

In this episode, Emmeline sits down with independent author and anthologist Adam D. Jones to talk about developing one's creative career as an adult, exploring the world of independent publishing, and why storytelling and writing are not always the same thing. Adam shares his passion for storytelling and talks about how he used that passion to become a better and more effective writer. He also discusses the beauty of the independent publishing industry and the plethora of intensely talented writers who are making it on their own.

To learn more about Adam, or to follow his creative journey, visit his official website. You can also celebrate Adam's birthday by downloading his new anthology, The Lost Legends: Book of Monsters--which features a story from Journey of a Song alumna Christine Hand!

New Release Feature Author: Jo Riccioni, The Branded

Today's New release episode welcomes Jo Riccioni to The Convo Couch.

Jo has written award-winning short stories and her first novel, The Italians at Cleats Corner Store, was signed by Scribe in Australia and published here and the UK, where it won a fiction category of the International Rubery Award with the title of The Italians and was long listed for the New Angle Prize in Literature.

Jo's worked at Bookocinno in Avalon for a number of years and lives on the northern beaches with her family and her gorgeous border collie, and has the most amazing writing studio. The Branded is a page turning dystopian fantasy, a YA-Adult crossover which Pam found hard to put it down.

Guest: Liselle Sambury - Blood Like Magic

Marissa chats with Liselle Sambury about her debut futuristic fantasy - BLOOD LIKE MAGIC - as well as integrating fantasy and science-fiction in a way that the magic and technology work with, and not against, each other; deciding what to cut and what not to cut when it comes to revisions, and making sure your "fun" scenes are important to the overall plot;  writing big family dynamics, plus one way to ensure that each character has their own opinions; writing morally gray ethical dilemmas and difficult decisions that keep your reader guessing; and using YouTube and social media to share your experiences with other writers and how great it can be to bond over various stages of the publishing journey.
