Grace, Justin, and Hansel talk about Goodbye Circles. Inspired by an international institute that specialises in restorative practice, Lutheran Community Care Services started Goodbye Circles for individuals who choose to leave the organisation.

Grace, Shaily and Justin are back to discuss how organisations and individuals can work together to shape a meaningful exit experience for all involved.

What do you do when someone quits? A good exit experience can make the difference between a resentful ex-member or a strong advocate. Yet, exits are often overlooked. Hear from two community leaders on the importance of exit experiences.

Travelin' Light

Leaving my bags behind

and takin' the road,

I'm leaving the past behind me,

and traveling back home.

The sky's above my head,

the road's winding wide,

I've given up pretending

that my past can decide.

There's a wind right behind me,

and horizons to discover,

the road is my friend

my shadow, and my brother.

I've got time to be thinking

and time to pass the day,

the answers to living,

are just footsteps away.

Friends are believing

that the fates can decide,

but I'm taking my chances,

that my luck won't decide.

I'm not over the hill,

nor wasting my time,

I'm on a journey to believe in

and I'm doing just fine.

There's no start, no ending

nor an end point in mind,

just the jigsaw of memory,

and what I'm leaving behind.

No signs nor distances,

to lead me astray,

The road leads me forwards,

just passing through each day.

I'm letting go of myself,

to stop feeding the past,

embracing the present

as no future can last.

Taking each moment

each breath, in delight,

the stars still guide me,

and not only at night.

So farewell from the journey

as I'm preparing to go,

the ending is a beginning 

I wanted you to know.

No journeys are lost,

no discoveries can be found,

without first trusting the journey,

knowing your homeward bound.

At Sunset

Sunset falling, 

lights on the hill, 

shadows lengthening, 

stars in the fading dusk, 

 dreaming of you still, 

the pathway 

is dark now, 

the leaves 

of life, hidden, 

beyond the end 

of day, 

footsteps quietly 

echoing, across the

stepping stones,

since you passed 

through this way, 

for a bird is singing,

closing the evening 

beside the memory

of you

a last and silent hush,

the sun slips, 

beneath the last cloud,

fading from light

and view.

Lights

Across the fading lights 

of earth time, 

the rising fall 

of sunset blue, 

the stars weep 

their tears 

across the southern skies, dreaming, 

singing, 

midnight songs, 

of yearning, 

loss, 

farewells, 

and goodbyes, 

missing the days 

and hours, 

of you.

For tonight, 

your ship 

has departed, 

with sails full 

with moonlight, 

and silent,

summer winds, 

memories blown

from present, 

and future past, 

from the last harbors, 

the outward tides, 

that leaving of home, 

and westwards 

the journeys end

will bring.

And so at last,

upon the promontory,

beyond 

the lighthouse, 

the last 

of the stepping stones,

to the dawns 

of another land, 

to waves

and farewells, 

to a once 

upon this time, 

the last goodbyes 

until the sea

departs,

forever here,

in silence, 

I stand.
