Her refreshing approach has been one of inclusiveness and accessibility. Core to her mission is reaching groups of people who traditionally have been written off by the mainstream fashion industry. Chi has also engaged in projects with non-profits, which is rare in her line of work.

In our conversation, Chi talks about the development of her confidence, which has given her the courage to be herself. This has also allowed her to get the best out of her clients by advising them on the importance of authenticity.

Episode 19: Costume Designer, Stylist, Patricia Field

Episode 19: Costume Designer, Stylist, Patricia Field

PATRICIA FIELD,  is a native New Yorker and one of fashion's greatest visionaries whose multi-faceted career has spanned more than five decades.

Her distinctive approach to dressing is evident through her work as a costume designer. Field single handedly changed the way women dress through the HBO series Sex and the City  and it's feature films. For her work on SATC Field won an Emmy Award and received five nominations for Best Costume Design.

Field also received an Academy Award nomination for the film, The Devil Wears Prada  as well as continued recognition for her work on television series such as Ugly Betty, Hope & Faith, and most recently for the hit Netflix series, Emily in Paris.

Field is also a seasoned retailer, establishing her eponymous boutique in New York City in 1966, which remained a fashion landmark for 50 years.

In 2016 Field sold her iconic retail property and launched a new concept, ARTFASHION.  Born out of her long personal ties to New York art community legends like Keith Haring and Basquiat, ARTFASHION now sees Field as curator, working with an impressive group of today’s talented visual artists who, under Field’s guidance, have applied their unique aesthetics to hand painted one-of-a-kind clothing.

In February 2023, Patricia published her memoir, Pat in the City: My Life of Fashion, Style, and Breaking All the Rules, where she chronicles everything from love, passion, culture, and the phenomenon that occurs when all three intersect with art.

    77) What Is Democratizing Fashion Truly About? | Natalie Shehata

    77) What Is Democratizing Fashion Truly About? | Natalie Shehata

How can we cultivate our authentic personal style in a trend-focused, overconsumption-driven world? What would it mean to truly democratize fashion — as in not the fast fashion co-opted use of the term, but genuine style democracy?

And how can fashion move beyond using diversity as a buzzword to create a holistically inclusive and intersectional sustainable fashion future?

In this episode, Stella Hertantyo is interviewing ethical stylist Natalie Shehata to explore all of these questions and more.

(P.S. Stella also interviewed Natalie for a piece on Conscious Fashion Collective about how to become a sustainable stylist!)

A Stylist and Creative Entrepreneur’s Journey

A Stylist and Creative Entrepreneur’s Journey

    Welcome to Blazon

As a creative sometimes you follow the path that appears in front of you... some creatives though carve their own path through sheer determination and clear intentions; creating a journey filled with experimentation, adventure, hope, inclusion, joy, determination and everything in between.

In this episode we talk to Rhona Ezuma who gives us an insight into carving such a path, talking to us not only about her journey as a stylist, but also founding an independent magazine that highlights communities commonly overlooked and ignored.

Rhona is a stylist, writer and founder of THIIIRD, an independent magazine and inclusive platform amplifying underrepresented voices in print and online. Based in London with a versatile book of clients, she regularly works between the realms of commercial campaigns, music, magazine and celebrity styling.

Lysa Cooper: Making it Cool to Care

Lysa Cooper: Making it Cool to Care

Superstar fashion stylist turned apothecary healer, Lysa Cooper, reminds us of the authentic New York of yesteryear, a time when phones were at home and ‘living in the moment’ was the only place to be. A time when style had less to do with shopping than enhancing our experience of ourselves and those around us. She talks candidly about leaving home at 14 for the Big Apple in the 90’s, the pitfalls of our modern celebrity-and-phone-addicted culture, and starting a whole new chapter in her 50s.

“I've already been at the best party. I've already had the best lovers. I've done it all and the only thing that now impresses me is the new, the invigorating, the enlightened, and the light itself. So, in relationship to me also starting a new career, I'm looking for a new perspective in community and love and even in a partner.”
