    Feed Forward Inspires Quality Performance

    Feed Forward Inspires Quality Performance

People are less familiar with, feedforward which inspires quality performance. That’s because there really isn't any point pointing out to people what they're really bad at, because they probably already know. The brilliant thing about feedforward is that people at the receiving end of feedforward see aspects of their performance that they are less good at - start becoming better! This is because people feel good and are not trying to undo what they are not good at. In pursuit of excellence Two themes emerge - excellence and empathy. Feedforward is a totally different way of talking about performance.

The week of American Thanksgiving is often a peak time for layoffs.

It happened to me too - 3 years ago I was told my role was being restructured. Effectively it was a constructive dismissal.

Best thing I did in the month before I was told about the restructuring?

    My performance review.

This week, I’ll tell you how to use a performance review strategically. It’s a legal document with a lot of negotiating power that people overlook.

    PerformanceReviews

    Chapters:

    00:02:37 Driving Remote Work Success
00:03:56 Strategic Approach to Performance Reviews.
00:10:05 Leveraging Performance Reviews for Future Career Growth

    Key Takeaways:
    1. Documentation of development emails from manager
    2. Recording initiatives and volunteer work
    3. Documenting compliments, kudos, and shoutouts
    4. Performance reviews as legal documents
    5. Envisioning the future and seeking support from managers and company for learning and development

752: Lion Dads, Missing Jet, & Mexican Alien

752: Lion Dads, Missing Jet, & Mexican Alien

Sarah is still obsessing about predator animals. She has developed a real affinity for polar bears and thinks lion dads are really not pulling their weight. They have manes and a roar, and that's about it. They're all hype! But it was great to hear that according to her, cats are great and dogs are "nasty." We discuss whether learning more about animals makes us more or less likely to be vegetarians. Elephants are smarty pants and walruses are, and I quote, "f*cking idiots." Sarah talks about the military jet that went missing and her theory about what really happened. But she was shocked to hear that the pilot made a 911 call and he didn't sound upset that he was EJECTED from the jet. We laugh about the "alien" they discovered in Mexico and then we get worried that we're going to look like real a-holes if they find out this thing actually is an alien or as Sarah thinks "is from another dimension." We learn why Gen Z does not want to be criticized at work and they don't even want "feedback," so now managers are reframing the messages by calling it "feedfoward." After we lost our minds about how stupid this is, we discuss how they say it's because they don't want to live in the past, but Susie points out that this is hypocritical since all they ever want to talk about is their past "trauma." Susie is full of BCP hot takes today. Please send "feedforward" to susie @ doesnt care dot com.

    Feedforward Neural Networks (FNNs)

    Feedforward Neural Networks (FNNs)

In the intricate tapestry of neural network architectures, Feedforward Neural Networks (FNNs) stand as one of the most foundational and elemental structures. Paving the initial pathway for more sophisticated neural models, FNNs encapsulate the essence of a neural network's ability to learn patterns and make decisions based on data.

    1. A Straightforward Flow

The term "feedforward" captures the core nature of these networks. Unlike their recurrent counterparts, which have loops and cycles, FNNs maintain a unidirectional flow of data. Inputs traverse from the initial layer, through one or more hidden layers, and culminate in the output layer. There's no looking back, no feedback, and no loops—just a straightforward progression.

    2. The Building Blocks

FNNs are composed of neurons or nodes, interconnected by weighted pathways. Each neuron processes the information it receives, applies an activation function, and sends its output to the next layer. Through the process of training, the weights of these connections are adjusted to minimize the difference between the predicted output and the actual target values.

    3. Pioneering Neural Learning

Before the ascendancy of deep learning and more intricate architectures, FNNs were at the forefront of neural-based machine learning. Their simplicity, coupled with their capacity to approximate any continuous function (given enough neurons), made them valuable tools in early machine learning endeavors—from basic classification tasks to function approximations.

    4. Applications and Achievements

While they might seem rudimentary in the shadow of their deeper and recurrent siblings, FNNs have found success in various applications. Their swift, feedforward mechanism makes them ideal for real-time processing tasks. They have been employed in areas like pattern recognition, regression analysis, and even some computer vision tasks, albeit with some limitations compared to specialized architectures like CNNs.

    5. Recognizing Their Role and Limitations

The elegance of FNNs lies in their simplicity. However, this also marks their limitation. They are ill-suited for tasks requiring memory or the understanding of sequences, like time series forecasting or natural language processing, where recurrent or more advanced architectures have taken the lead. Yet, understanding FNNs is often the first step for learners delving into the world of neural networks, offering a foundational perspective on how networks process and learn from data.

To sum up, Feedforward Neural Networks, with their linear progression and foundational design, have played an instrumental role in the evolution of machine learning. They represent a seminal chapter in the annals of AI—a chapter where machines took their first confident steps in learning from data, laying the groundwork for the marvels that were to follow in the realm of neural computation.
