Ep.37 Robert "Ghost" Guerrero and Robert "El Pistolero" Guerrero Jr. on the Empire Boxing Podcast with Coach J. Robert boasts a record of (38-6-1) 20 by way of KO. He's held world championships in multiple weight classes including the WBC and NABF featherweight title twice between 2006 and 2008, and the IBF junior lightweight title from 2009 to 2010. Additionally he has held multiple interim titles at lightweight and welterweight. Robert has also fought some of boxing's greats and lands himself firmly among them. Legendary boxing matchmaker, Roberto Diaz, joins Coach J on the first episode of Season 2 of The Empire Boxing Podcast. Roberto broke into boxing through his friendship with Marco Antonio Barrera and eventually spent over 20 years as a matchmaker, a majority of it with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. He moved on from Golden Boy in 2023 and is now working independently with various boxers and companies in the boxing world. Roberto has made many of the historic matches fans have enjoyed and has worked with some incredible athletes over the course of his boxing career, including legendary boxers like Bernard Hopkins, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Erik Morales, Sugar Shane Mosley, and Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs. Manny "The Teacher" Sobral, the former Canadian and IBO Champion of the World, joins host Coach J on this week's episode of the Empire Boxing Podcast. Sobral grew up in East Van after his parents emigrated from Spain to Canada when he was six years old. He started boxing when he was 13 years old after walking into the Inner City Gym near Main and Hastings. He went on to fight out of the legendary Astoria Gym on East Hastings under the tutelage of George Angelomatis where he compiled an impressive amateur record of 135 wins and 11 losses earning three national championships, five international golds and a trip to the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea where he represented Canada. After posting a 28-1 pro record over the course of six years and reaching 6th in the WBC ranking, Manny retired ranked 15th. This week on the Empire Boxing Podcast retired Pro Boxer and Langley B.C. native, Sarah Pucek-Mehuys, joins host Coach J and special co-host Anna Kerevan from Empire Boxing. Sarah was the first woman to win the British Commonwealth Championship and held the title from 2016-2018. She was also Canadian Champion from 2012-2018 and NABF Champion from 2017-2018. Sarah reached Number 7 in the world in the WBC rankings and hung up her gloves in 2018 with a record of 8-3-1 including a KO in her pro-debut. Sarah is now a mom and looks back fondly on boxing and the self confidence it gave her and hopes to coach kids boxing one day and pass on some of that knowledge to the next generation.
