Film composer Anthony Willis has worked on Hollywood films such as How to Train your Dragon, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jason Bourne, Wreck it Ralph, & Despicable Me 2. Anthony’s most recent film is Emerald Fennell’s drama/thriller Promising Young Woman starring Carey Mulligan which premiered at Sundance 2020. He has also scored video games such as Fortnite. Willis grew up in London, and studied composition at Marlborough College, Wilshire and the University of Bristol, before earning a graduate degree from the University of Southern California Film School.

It's the season one finale! Hasn't time flown? Never fear, the recording has begun for series two and we have a knockout, solid-gold, brilliant guest to ensure we see out this season with a bang. Enter the ring, Paul Oakenfold!

 

Paul is not only known as a top DJ having previously been voted the world's best two years running, but also as a music producer, record label boss and for his scores on TV shows and films, including THAT Big Brother theme tune and Hollywood blockbuster, Swordfish. As well as all of that, he's also the man that created a movement with what became known as The Second Summer of Love which changed both the entire dance music genre, as well as the music industry as a whole.

Vanaf vandaag brengen we filmmuziek in al haar emotie en melancholie tot in je woonkamer. Breng de familie samen, jong en oud, neem rustig plaats in de sofa, sluit je ogen en geniet van ’s werelds mooiste melodieën, geschreven voor de film-, tv- en gaming-industrie.

Deze eerste - niet thematische - week starten we met de animatiefilm Up. Een film die iedereen van in het begin meteen naar de keel grijpt met een heel herkenbare scene waarin een oude man terugblikt op hoe hij zijn vrouw leerde kennen, hoe ze samenleefden, hoe zij dan ziek werd en de oude man uiteindelijk helemaal alleen achter bleef. 

Michael Giacchino werd als start gekozen omdat hij als geen ander erin slaagt om de grote componisten te bundelen in één persoon. Het is niet voor niets dat je hem meer en meer ziet verschijnen als componist van een film of spel.  

Met Klaus Badelt’s werk krijgen we het meteen warm, want je hoort dat de acteur in de film vrolijk en verliefd rondloopt in Bleeker street. Net zoals Harry Potter de eerste liefdesgevoelens ervaart met het prachtige stuk geschreven door Patrick Doyle, gaan we over naar een andere missie, namelijk de oorlog. Oorlogsthema’s waren lange tijd in de voorbije paar decennia. En met Band of Brothers heeft Michael Kamen een groot succes gehaald.

Eindigen doen we met het immer bekende ET, the Extra-Terrestrial, the Deptarture. Dit epische werk van componist John williams is een van de meest tijdloze nummers ooit gemaakt.
