It Takes a (Wisconsin) Village
If it takes a village to raise a child, it may need two villages to care of a child with special needs. Adversity has a way of revealing who genuinely is in one's corner and who isn't. This episode takes you through various examples of how people chose to be present in another's life in a meaningful way. It also briefly touches upon how even family members can disappoint you at a time when you are at your most vulnerable.Β Through a series of random acts of kindness, Village 2.0 would emerge and prove to be a strong foundation for a family in need of community.Β

Ep. 44: Spin Instructor (@_meghankelley_) on Turning Around and Finding Community
Meghan is the Master Instructor and Marketing Manager at Reve Cycling Studio in Portland Maine. Meghan is originally from Vermont, but moved to Maine to attend college.Β
During her time at the University of Southern Maine, Meghan was looking for her community. This is where Reve came into the picture. When Meghan began riding at Reve she began to find that sense of belonging that she had been missing. She quickly did what she needed to become an instructor and began teaching at Reve!
Β
Β From this point on Meghanβs dreams began to grow as post do, post-grad. She dreamed of being a cycling instructor for Soul Cycle (the King of all Cycling studios).
On this episode, Meghan shares with us what it was like to chase her dream and be brave and then what it is like to realize you are happier at home. We loved hearing this perspective because we know there are so many men and women that experience this, but never share what it is like. Meghan talks about how it is okay to do the thing you are scared of that makes you reach for your dreams and encourages you to try it for yourself, but once you have done it, it doesnβt necessarily mean you have to KEEP doing it. If your heart is pulling you somewhere else it is okay to go.Β
Pretty Sure failure can be a great life lesson
Have you ever wondered what it takes to fit in?Β
In this episode, I talk to Marsha Druker, founder of FuckUp Nights Toronto about what it's like to follow your dreams, start over again, accept and embrace your failures and celebrate life's greatest lessons with like-minded people. The greatest reminder we can have is if you don't find a community you identify yourself with, create one and see the magic happen in front of you. Life's better enjoyed with people by your side, and I hope this episode shows you all that and more!

What is community? How finding or making community can fulfill so many of our needs.
What is community? How finding or making community can fulfill so many of our needs and what are the gifts of being in a community? How we can create or find one?
In a world where so many are feeling so disconnected and alone, community brings connection and a feeling as if we belong. We know that someone will be there if we are sick, or need cheering up, or need someone to check on our animals. While extended families and neighborhoods are dissolving, community can take their place. Finding community can be so important in our lives, let's explore how we can do this and how can we find communities in our area or online?

The Importance of Community - Cynthia Berry
No one is an island. We all need community. And for a family impacted by disability, having a community of support to share encouragement and help meet real needs can change everything. On todayβs Motherβs Day episode of the Joni and Friends Ministry Podcast, Crystal talks with Cynthia Berry, a woman who has faced a series of challenges: sheβs a single mom, an African American woman, and mother to a child with special needs. Through each challenge, Cynthia has found her lifeline of help and support through the community of her church. Listen as she shares what her community taught her about her son how each new challenge has deepened her faith in Jesus.
If you feel overwhelmed by your challenges today, please donβt self-isolate. Find a community of support and press in, even if it is uncomfortable. God has given us the local church to provide real communityβ¦ and you have a story of hope that needs to be shared.
For practical tools to help build a community of support for families impacted by disability, download our free book Doing Life Together at www.joniandfriends.org/podcast
Joni and Friends was founded in 1979 by Joni Eareckson Tada who in a diving accident was left a quadriplegic at 17 years old. Ministry began as Tada, joined by friends around her kitchen table, responded to letters she received from people with disabilities in search of support. Over the past 40 years, the ministry has grown to serve thousands of people impacted by disability worldwide: Joni and Friends has delivered more than 150,000 wheelchairs and Bibles through Wheels for the World and provided Christian care to 63,000 special needs family members through Family Retreats. The organization also equips individuals and churches with disability ministry training and provides higher education courses through the Christian Institute on Disability. For more encouragement, download the Joni and Friends radio podcast in English or Spanish, and view inspirational videos on the Joni and Friends website.
