A mass  shooting in downtown San Diego resulted in the death of a valet driver and injured 4 others. Authorities reported that the suspect used a “ghost gun.”

Laurie discusses an article in the San Diego Union Tribune by Teri Figueroa about the rise of ghost guns seized by the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). 1 out of 5 guns seized by SDPD are ghost guns.

Sgt. Albert Carrillo with the San Diego Sheriff's Department, San Marcos Station, joins the podcast to discuss this dangerous trend and how his unit is seeing more and more gang members armed with ghost guns. 

The Justice Department’s proposed rules will impose restrictions on ghost guns, such as requiring retailers to run background checks before selling kits that allow someone to readily make a gun at home, and forcing manufacturers to include a serial number on a firearm’s frame or receiver.

Each episode we examine the laws on the books; 3 are real and 1 is fake. Can you guess which law is the fake?

1. In Texas, it is unlawful to engage in celebratory gun fire unless blanks are used.
2. In Wyoming, it is unlawful to shoot fish.
3. In Massachusetts, it is unlawful for a shooting club to allow members to shoot at targets with human silhouettes.
4. In California, gun sales are prohibited at the Del Mar Fair Grounds in San Diego, CA.

Jimmy and  Mark bring in AR-Gurus Adam Maxwell and Reuben Aleckson to dissect the anatomy of an AR, and where to consider dropping coin like brass on a hot range, or where to save money like cartridges during an ammo crisis (that would never happen). Mark even brings in his plaid-lined wicker basket of AR parts as visual-aid. You can rest easy knowing they have been assembled. He even brought some of his own for show and tell! Ryan Muckenhirn was also in attendance to drop his historical knowledge on the platforms and the cartridge. We discuss how Mosin’s went from dirt cheap to expensive in relatively short order, how accurate they really can be, the many merits of the 7.62x54R and the differences between the various rifles that shot the round. William’s collection on the table included a classic 91/30, an M44 carbine with folding stock, and a totally legit sniper model.

As far as pure entertainment goes, there ain’t nothin’ wrong with gun-based video games – we’ve all played them and enjoyed them despite knowing they get many of the real life details a bit wrong at times. That said, for so many new shooters these days, their only knowledge/experience with guns and shooting is through these games. So, what are some of the things our crew here has found to be a few of the biggest considerations a video game player should know before getting into real life guns? Tune in to find out!

Jimmy and Mark hang out with Ryan M to discuss the ever-mysterious H&K G11. Certainly many of us have seen this fascinating firearm in pictures or videos, but so few have actually gotten to see, hold or shoot one in person. The ammunition, function and form of the rifle altogether is extraordinarily unique. Ryan has done some extensive fan-boy research on the firearm along with some speculation about how it works and why it never really caught on to become mainstream. Full disclaimer – this is just some gun enthusiasts spit balling about a gun they’ve never seen before. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but it still brought about some interesting conversation.
