#91.5 Fear In Flight: My Personal Account Of How It Felt To Be On A Plane With A Crisis Situation: Special Episode

I decided to record a special episode due to a recent situation in my own life. I was on a flight from Los Angeles to Boston where a man threatened to take over the flight. I described the event that occurred, my thoughts on the subject, and trying to normalize that therapists also can be affected by situations, which brings back the past and other difficult emotions to process.

This episode was really personal to me and I hope my audience enjoys it.

I've included some of the news reports below:

In this excerpt from my interview with pioneering flight attendant, Casey Grant, we talk about the discrimination she and her cohorts dealt with in the pursuit of their careers, the fun and glamour of being cabin crew, and the not-so-glamourous aspects of the job.

Today's "activism" is essentially a process of expressing collective community grievances and disgust, feeling there's either no control over situations or even how to react. Or hope that someone else will do it. Well, there's no someone else. Nor is there a blueprint for creating change. It's simple: "get out" and make sure every voter is informed on our issues and registered to vote. If there's a message that we believe, it is "Don't worry about rocking the boat because you are not in the boat, so rock it as hard and as often as you can." If you don't feel the wall at your back now, you should.

"He's Going to Bomb the Plane" (REPRISE)

"He's Going to Bomb the Plane" (REPRISE)

I have some unfortunate news Nareshes episode is not dropping today. My hard drive got fucked all due to human error and I had no backup because I am an idiot. This means I lost a lot of other content but it's okay I'm taking this sign from the universe to take a small break from doing the podcast. This week was the birthday of another one of my cousins that lost his life last year. I'm going to go spend some more time with my family and focus on different things to make this show and myself better. Consider this the first season of the 76. Trust me there are way more episodes to come. I do want to thank all of you for listening. I never thought more than 10 people would listen to this. Thanks for listening sharing and giving me your feedback. It is greatly appreciated. I got a surprise for y’all in season 2 most likely dropping in October. In almost every episode I say shit like reach out to your friends and family because if there is something that the last 12 months have shown me is that no one lives forever. So a call or a text or even showing up to talk to your family members or friends or even old acquaintances is a good thing. At the end of the day when the people we love pass away all we have are the pictures, videos, and memories that keep them somewhat alive. Cherish those moments when you got shit-faced at Santos with your cousins for your going away party or eating dinner after church service.. cherish every second. Okay I'm done with the sad shit every day is a new day and to celebrate that I'm going to hit y’all with an old episode :)

"Stop and Live Every Day Like it's Your Last"

"Stop and Live Every Day Like it's Your Last"

Malika reminds me of the relationship I have with the women in my family. Open, honest, and Christian. Unstoppable when she puts her mind to it. With the support of her husband and 5 children, she is both an accomplished mother and a proud flight attendant. This episode is for people who wonder if it's possible to have both a fulfilling career and a loving family. It's also an episode for those die-hard romantics that believe in love at first swipe.
