Destin Report: Fishing the Everglades & Key West

Destin Report: Fishing the Everglades & Key West

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about fishing the beaches for redfish and an awesome nearshore bite with Mangrove Snapper & Triggerfish. Lionel also tells us about a his recent trip through the state of FL. He was able to fish some freshwater South of Orlando & south of Naples in the Everglades. He finished the trip off in Key West and was able to fish for several days. As always it was great catching up with Capt. Lionel and it sounds like the fishing is strong around Destin right now, so get out there early to beat the heat!

Panama City Beach Report: Tripletail & Mahi Nearshore

Panama City Beach Report: Tripletail & Mahi Nearshore

On today's show we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. & we get a full fishing report on the PCB area. We talk about the inshore bite, the offshore & nearshore bite as well as the tarpon migration. It sounds like everything is still fishing well. The snapper bite became harder to get as to be expected late in the season and the heat makes inshore fishing difficult any time other than first light or sunset. Justin explains what to expect as we begin the slow transition into fall and cooler temperatures. Pay attention, because there is some great advice regarding how to change your approach when the surface temp begins to cool overnight.

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Shrimp Hatch & Big Tripletail around Apalach

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Shrimp Hatch & Big Tripletail around Apalach

On today's show we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. We talk about the fishing around St Joe Bay as well as nearshore & offshore. Sounds like inshore is tough in St Joe Bay but the bite on the beaches and nearshore is still going strong. Jordan also tells us about the first shrimp hatch of the year around Apalachicola & a trip where they caught some monster triple tail around Indian Pass. It sounds like things have moved into the typical late summer patterns & there are certainly fish to be caught!

Pensacola Report: Kings & Cobia Offshore

Pensacola Report: Kings & Cobia Offshore

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about the rain that has moved through the area in recent weeks and has made for significant challenges if you're fishing inshore. Not only the water clarity and temperature are effected but most importantly the salinity. When the salinity drops quickly the fish shut down and usually find cleaner, saltier water. That being said, anything on the gulf side is your best bet and with the area's multiple piers and beach access' you should still be able to wet a line if your land locked. Boats should plan to head out to chase the cobia and king's that are prevalent on offshore & nearshore wrecks right now.

Port St Joe/Apalachicola: Live Chumming for King Mackerel-Part 2

Port St Joe/Apalachicola: Live Chumming for King Mackerel-Part 2

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. and we finish our conversation from last week about live chumming for King's. In part 2, we talk about the other fish that come up in the live chum slick along with Kingfish. Inshore, it sounds like the wet weather that moved through the area last week and the summer pop up thunderstorms helped to get the bite fired up. Those showers cool the water temp down quickly and create oxygen in the water. Sometimes the fish respond well to little those rain events, so don't let a little rain send you to the dock, sometimes that's what they are waiting for.

Pensacola Report: A Phenomenal Offshore Bite

Pensacola Report: A Phenomenal Offshore Bite

On today's show we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about a fantastic bite offshore. There's no shortage of Red Snapper but you might also find Mahi oriented to floating structure or the occasional King Mackerel. There is plenty of action to be had this time of year. The late summer patterns are just getting going & it is a great time to head out. Like Brant mentioned, surf fishing is really tough right now so one of the most effective ways to get on the fish if you don't have boat access, is to take advantage of one of the local piers or hire a local charter captain to head offshore. Either way, there's a lot of fish to target right now!

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Live Chumming for King Mackerel

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Live Chumming for King Mackerel

On this weeks episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. and he tells us about a method of targeting king mackerel that sounds like a blast! We also talk about the affect the influx of rain is going to have on the Tarpon migration and the fishing in the area. Jordan makes some sense of some of the regulatory decisions of the past and some of the improvements they've made to make more accurate regulations for the Gulf of Mexico's Red Snapper fishery.

Destin Report: A Good Bite Offshore & Nearshore

Destin Report: A Good Bite Offshore & Nearshore

On today's show we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. We get an update on the Destin fishery, specifically the tarpon run & the offshore bite. It sounds like the silver Kings are still moving through the area in good numbers. The off shore bite has been solid as to be expected & snapper are being caught in good numbers. The big question remains, how will the rain moving across the coast this week affect the fishery and the tarpon migration?

Pensacola Report: Mangrove's Inshore & Tarpon on the Beach

Pensacola Report: Mangrove's Inshore & Tarpon on the Beach

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. We talk about fishing the sound for trout and redfish. We also talk about what to expect with the rain that is moving through this week. Brant gives a look ahead of what he suspects will happen next. Blood minnows & Menhaden both transition out of the Bayou's. This event causes an all species feeding frenzy, it should begin happening in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for birds or surface action.

Panama City Beach Report: Chasin' Silver

Panama City Beach Report: Chasin' Silver

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. and we talk about the insanity of this years tarpon migration. Justin & his clients have been having a ball chasing and catching silver kings around PCB this year. Justin shares some techniques for boat positioning and trying not to get too close to the fish. It sounds like everything has come together so far this year and the tarpon numbers reflect that.

Pensacola Report: Okaloosa Island Pier Tarpon

Pensacola Report: Okaloosa Island Pier Tarpon

On today's show we talk with Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us about an epic weekend Tarpon fishing at the Okaloosa Island Pier. We talk about why they might've been in that area in such great numbers & Brant tells us about his bait of choice. We also get a quick refresher on the "rules of the road" for Tarpon fishing on the pier. I love episodes like this because anyone can go to a local pier and have access to a great migratory tarpon fishery, you don't need a boat or much of anything other than a capable rod & reel. Check out previous podcast episodes for suggestions on the preferred tarpon setup.

Destin Report: Silver Kings on the Emerald Coast

Destin Report: Silver Kings on the Emerald Coast

On today's episode we talk with Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about a recent trip he took to NYC for a showing of a short film series he was a part of for Xtratuf and we learn a little about the process and purpose behind the project. We also get an update on the tarpon migration through the Destin area. Sounds like they are moving in full force as we get close to the peak of the season. It is a great time to look for them around Destin not only because of the gin clear water but tarpon don't seem to mind when it gets hot. In fact they seem to enjoy it, the hotter and calmer the water, the better. Thats when you will see them roll on the surface too, to supplement the low oxygen levels found in warm, calm water. Or maybe they're just happier when it's still and quiet, either way, this is the time to look for them around Destin!

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Understanding Tides & Fishing the Dog Days of Summer

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Understanding Tides & Fishing the Dog Days of Summer

On today's show we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. We talk about the impacts of the tide in the local fisheries. Jordan explains the differences in tides for Port St Joe & Apalachicola & they are remarkably different fisheries. We also talk about the change in the number of tides per day that take place in that area. You might wonder, why spend so much time talking about tidal movement? The reality is that in the dog days of summer (and apparently most of June this year), the moving water does more than give predatory fish an ambush opportunity. It actually cools and oxygenates the water, that gives the fish more energy to feed and kind of gets them going. Late summer is the time to understand how the tides effect your favorite fishery & your ability to catch fish there.

    Pensacola Report: SouthWest FL Trip

    Pensacola Report: SouthWest FL Trip

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He gives us a quick report on the local fishing and it sounds like offshore is the place to be right now. Brant also tells us about a trip he took recently to the Fort Myers, FL area and to chase snook on the beaches. In fact, if you listened to last weeks episode, Brant was actually heading South while we spoke and we talked a good deal about what his plans were. Now, this week we get to hear the behind the scenes details and see how the trip unfolded..

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Tarpon Techniques & Catching Pressured Red Snapper

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Tarpon Techniques & Catching Pressured Red Snapper

On today's show we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. We talk about the health of the red snapper fishery as well as dealing with the tax man when he shows up to get lunch. We get an update on the tarpon migration in the area and Jordan tells us some ways you can target them. There is some local etiquette involved and Jordan does a good job of explaining some of the local rules for chasing tarpon there. Jordan also shares some things you can try if you are limited to red snapper fishing on public numbers or area's that are under a lot of fishing pressure. These tips will become very relevant as snapper season moves along and all of the wrecks begin to react to the increased fishing pressure.

Pensacola Report: Best Fishing Week of the Year So Far

Pensacola Report: Best Fishing Week of the Year So Far

On todays episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. He tells us that so far this year, this is the best fishing week he has seen. We talk about some of the fish he has seen come to the dock and tells us a little about his own in shore Red Snapper opening day. We also get a report of good Tarpon numbers from the pier as well as Mahi. We spend a few minutes talking about snook fishing in the surf in SW Florida. Brant is in route to spend the week in Ft Myers to chase line siders on the beach, so its always fun to talk about some of the species that are available locally. Im looking forward to hearing how his trip goes on next week's episode!

Panama City Beach Report: All About the Silver King II

Panama City Beach Report: All About the Silver King II

On today's show we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. & we talk all about the Silver King for a second episode. Justin tells us about a recent Tarpon trip where the fish were doing some crazy things and weren't very cooperative at first. We also continue our conversation about proper gear selection and talk about the specific style and type of rod we prefer for chasing tarpon. It's always fun to pick Justin's brain on tarpon because he has dedicated significant amounts of time and energy into better understanding how to target and catch them.

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Post Spawn Speckled Trout

Port St Joe/Apalachicola Report: Post Spawn Speckled Trout

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. We talk about fishing during the heat of the summer and how the fish in different areas of St Joe Bay react to the warmer water. We also talk about the speckled trout spawn that is winding down and what you might expect out of the trout fishery over the next few weeks. We get an update of the tarpon migration in the area as well as the triple tail fishery in Apalach. If you can get out & don't mind getting hot or dodging afternoon storms, there are plenty of fish to target this time of year.

    Pensacola Report: Docks After Dark

    Pensacola Report: Docks After Dark

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Brant Peacher of AnglerUp with Brant out of Pensacola, FL. We talk about fishing dock lights after dark & agree that it is one of the most productive ways to fish, especially in an area that you are unfamiliar with. Brant tells us the bait that he has found to be most productive and how he rigs it. Dock lights provides a visual area where bait would gather, that bait attracts gamefish and even better, the lights illuminate the water so you can see the fish cruising through. It is truly an awesome experience!
