Ep400 - Henry Winkler | Being Henry: The Fonz...and Beyond

Henry Winkler visits Google to discuss his memoir “Being Henry: The Fonz…and Beyond”, and how we can build community and foster inclusion and accessibility for older adults and people with disabilities.

In 2023, Henry Winkler will celebrate 50 years of success in Hollywood and continues to be in demand as an actor, producer, and director. He co-stars as acting teacher Gene Cousineau on the hit HBO dark comedy, Barry. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, in 1973 he was cast in the iconic role of Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli in the TV series Happy Days. During his 10 years on the popular sitcom, he won two Golden Globe Awards, was nominated three times for an Emmy Award, and was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In recent years, Winkler appeared in a number of series, including Arrested Development, Children’s Hospital, and Parks and Recreation. He is the New York Times bestselling author of numerous children’s books, including Alien Superstar, and Hank Zipzer, the World’s Greatest Under-Achiever, a 28-book series inspired by Winkler’s own struggle with severe dyslexia.

Shinola At The Oscars, A New Detroit Bodega And 7 Things To Know

Shinola At The Oscars, A New Detroit Bodega And 7 Things To Know

A Hollywood film director makes a giant splash at the Oscar Awards when he says Shinola is “saving Detroit” and the interweb asplodes. We talk about what that ridiculous, off-the-cuff comment means about the city and its nascent comeback.

There’s a lot more news to be had on today’s episode. We also discuss that Medium blog post announcing a new bodega — that’s essentially New York City parlance for “party store” — for the hard-hit Russell Woods neighborhood on Detroit’s west side. It’ll reportedly be part of a larger development, and the post ends with the hashtag, #MakeTheHoodGreatAgain.

    Also on today’s show:

    • Notorious Detroit landlord Dennis Keffalinos has the building that formerly housed El Zocalo on Bagley Avenue in Mexicantown – DetNews
    • The Canadian government aims to waive tolls for cyclists using the Gordie Howe International Bridge – CBC
    • The Fonz is coming to Motor City Comic Con
    • Dearborn gets a nod as one of the top suburban, uh, suburbs in the country in which to eat – Thrillist
    • Detroit City FC will take on the Bucks, which have moved to Flint, in a final preseason friendly
    • Oakland County downtowns and businesses can apply for $2,500 matching small-business grants through a county program
    • Mardi Gras is coming, and along with it, PAZCKI and assorted festivities like the Tour De Troit 5K – SIGN UP

As always, thanks for listening. We love you.

Marion Ross - My Days Happy and Otherwise
Before she was affectionately known to millions as "Mrs. C.," Marion Ross began her career as a Paramount starlet who went on to appear in nearly every major TV series of the 1950s and 1960s - including Love, American Style, in which she donned an apron that would cinch her career. Soon after came the fateful phone call from producer Garry Marshall that made her an "overnight" success, and changed her life...

The conversation I had with Marion was like having conversation with my Grandmother. Plus she said "Sit on it Bob" for me.

Steel City Convention- Marta On The Move Podcast Episode 17

Nac comes on my show to visit different events in town that we find fun and interesting. Conventions, Pinball Tournaments, Gaming, Baraoke.  We love Nerding out together to discuss what is happening around town.  This was my first convention, and the Fonz, the bully from Christmas Story, and Tom Savini all managed to do some plugs for me.  Not a bad time at all.
