MVP - CGM Manufacturers

Our follow-up episode to the discussion on insulin pumps, this MVP discusses the different CGM manufacturers and what we knew at the time for what was coming. Since the original episode aired, the Dexcom G7 has been released, but is (as of summer 2023) still undergoing integration with the Tandem t:Slim X2 insulin pump.

Knowing about the different CGM options is just as important (if not more important) than knowing what pumps are out there. If I had to choose between a pump and a sensor, I'd choose a sensor every time.

Information is potential power, and you can't make a decision about which CGM to use if you don't know the options.

OpenScape, Changes at Reddit & Your Feedback

Today on the show, Steven and Shaun talk about the breaking news over the weekend that a group of developers have come up with an alternative to the much-loved Microsoft SoundScape app, called OpenScape. The new app is in a beta phase and is slowly being rolled out to people who want to take part in order to give feedback. At the time of recording the beta program was full, but the developer told Double Tap that it would open up again “in the coming days.” Double Tap correspondent Michael Babcock sent in an early demo of the new app in action. Follow this link to access the beta when more spaces become available: https://testflight.apple.com/join/Y6Cj2cLk Also, protests have begun within the Reddit community after the company decided to bring in what some are calling "exorbitant" fees for third parties to access their APIs, meaning developers of apps that give people access to Reddit would have to pay large fees to do so. Despite the disabled community appearing to get a pass following comments by the company’s CEO, long-time moderator of the r/Blind subreddit, Samuel Proulx, told Double Tap that all was not as it seemed as he joins Steven and Shaun for an in-depth look at the story. Featuring a conversation with Kevin Frankish, broadcaster, former co-host of one of Canada’s largest morning shows and current host of his own podcast, the Happy Molecule, plus Lisa Maks, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Diabetes, at the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton.

In this podcast we will hear how Kevin Frankish, who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2018, has learned to manage his diabetes and what words of advice he has for others living with diabetes. Lisa Maks will share her clinical expertise of counselling patients in an acute care setting when they receive a diagnosis of diabetes, the impact of complications, and improvements in diabetes management. Lisa will also comment on the beneficial role of flash glucose monitoring to assist in managing glucose levels.
