    212 Friends of Porty Prom

    212 Friends of Porty Prom

The Friends of the Prom was formally set up three years ago as a charity. Its objectives include the organisation of recreational activities on the Prom, helping to promote the arts, heritage, and culture present on the Prom and working to improve and protect the environment of the Promenade itself, the beach and the waters of the Forth. Understandably, its activities have been fairly quiet over the last 15 months; however, it held its AGM by Zoom on Thursday evening to take a look forward, to how it might work as restrictions are eased.

    123 Friends of Porty Prom

Portobello Prom and Beach are well used by locals and visitors alike – one only has to think of the crowds who thronged here over the Easter Weekend to see this in action. However, there’s been a lot of interest in how to improve the area, to make everyone’s enjoyment of the beach that much better; and we’re not just talking about the area where most people tend to congregate, between Tumbles and the Swim Centre. The Prom after all stretches from Seafield all the way to the Pumping Station in Joppa, a total of two miles. In the Podcast, we’ve reported on some the changes that are taking place. However, many of them are being drawn under the umbrella of Friends of Porty Prom (and Beach) which held its first ever AGM this past week. David Calder was there.

    65 Pals of Porty Prom

    65 Pals of Porty Prom
It's an idea that's been around for some time - but last weekend, Porty People were invited to share their vision of Porty Prom and the Beach! Friends of Porty Prom, to be set up on a similar model to the Friends of Figgate Park, will be a place where people who care about the Prom can share their ideas and help make it a great place for sport and play now and in the future.
