Flipping Tables and Eternal Life - The Gospels

Flipping Tables and Eternal Life - The Gospels

In this Bible Story, we witness the righteous anger of Jesus. During the Passover, corrupt money-changers and religious leaders exploit people’s desire to worship. So Jesus fashions a whip and drives them out. This story is inspired by John 2:13-23, John 3: 1-21, Numbers 21:4-9. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is John 2:15 from the King James Version.

Episode 178: As Jesus entered the temple gates during Passover, His eyes were open to the corruption of that sacred place. Where there should have been awe and a sense of holiness, a marketplace existed. Instead of forgiveness, the religious leaders were requiring fees. Jesus could not stand this happening in God’s temple, so He drove out the buyers, sellers, and the money changers! The temple priests challenged Him on this but Jesus did not falter. Later that evening though, one of the Pharisees came to Him to know more about who He was and what He came to do.

Unclean - The Book of Acts

Unclean - The Book of Acts

In this Bible Story, Peter discovers that the kingdom of God is expanding to more than just the Jews. Through his interactions with Cornelius, Peter begins to learn that God was going to extend his reach to all the nations. This story is inspired by Acts 10:1-11:18. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is Acts 11:9 from the King James Version.

Episode 225: In Caesarea, there was a centurion named Cornelius. He was a good man and a God-fearing man, but he was also a Roman gentile. He prayed to God daily and sought to do good to those who were less fortunate. His prayers were heard by God, and God told him in a dream to send for a man named Peter who was staying in Joppa. At the same time, Peter was praying and in a vision experienced a message from God about calling anything unclean or common. When the men sent by Cornelius arrived, he went with them, and when the whole party arrived at the house of Cornelius, Peter saw what God was trying to tell him. He then obediently preached the message of Jesus to Cornelius’ entire household. All of Cornelius’ family and friends came to believe in Jesus and were baptized.

Aeneas had been bedridden for eight years but God had sent Peter there to heal him. And at a word, Aeneas was healed and God used this healing to bring many people to Him. Meanwhile, in Joppa, a disciple named Tabitha became ill and died. Her friends sent for Peter at once and when he arrived he took Tabitha by the hand and told her to arise. God restored life to Tabitha’s body and many people celebrated God’s goodness with her.

    Rethinking Scripture Podcast

Episode 54: Acts 10-11 - The Gentile Pentecost

September 9, 2022 - Host: Dr. Gregory Hall

When we read Acts 10, we often make Cornelius the focus of the chapter. But a careful reading of the text suggests that Peter is really the dynamic character with the most movement. Could it be that Peter was also given a gift of the Holy Spirit the day the Gentiles spoke in tongues?

Halfway there! Cornelius sends for Peter - Audio
In Caesarea a centurion named Cornelius, a devout and God-fearing man, was told in a vision to send for Peter, in Joppa. At the same time, Peter had a vision of all kinds of animals in a sheet, and God told him to eat. Peter protested since most were unclean to the Jews, but God said He had made everything clean. While still thinking about the vision, Cornelius' friends came for Peter, and God told him to go with them. Arriving in Caesarea, Peter understood that God had torn the walls down between Jew and Gentile, and that's what the vision was about. He explained Jesus to Cornelius and his household - all believed, were filled with the Holy Spirit and were baptized.

Episode 42: Introduction to the book of Acts

May 8, 2022 - Host: Dr. Gregory Hall

The book of Acts is the story of how the witness of Jesus the messiah made it’s way from Jerusalem to the remotest parts of the earth. But we would be deficient if we just read these individual stories as disconnected events. Luke, the author, has organized these episodes so there are hidden treasures throughout the narrative.

    174 Wander Women

    174 Wander Women

Wander Women is a business based in Joppa. It was set up by Anna Neubert-Wood to encourage women to get out into the open, to get some (as she calls it) green therapy. As you’ll hear, she takes out small groups, introducing them to wild swimming, nature walks in the countryside and even wild camping on overnight adventures. It was working well. She had clients not just from Scotland but from overseas as well. However, the arrival of Covid-19 brought everything to a shuddering halt. But later this month, she will be starting to take families or close friends on private trips where those taking part can keep to the recommended social distance. The whole concept intrigued Porty Podcast Producer David Calder who met her, appropriately, outdoors.

    124 Porty Book Blog

Book blogs are very popular – there are well over 100 in the UK alone. They’re liked by the public because they help their readers find new books they might enjoy. They’re also liked by authors and publishers because they help to raise the profile of new titles. The Porty Book Blog has just celebrated its 4th anniversary. It was created by Joanne Baird because she is an enthusiastic, voracious reader and she’s keen to share that enthusiasm with others. As you’ll hear, she now has around 7,000 followers on social media, which is well above the UK average. So why did she decide to start writing about her passion?

    123 Friends of Porty Prom

Portobello Prom and Beach are well used by locals and visitors alike – one only has to think of the crowds who thronged here over the Easter Weekend to see this in action. However, there’s been a lot of interest in how to improve the area, to make everyone’s enjoyment of the beach that much better; and we’re not just talking about the area where most people tend to congregate, between Tumbles and the Swim Centre. The Prom after all stretches from Seafield all the way to the Pumping Station in Joppa, a total of two miles. In the Podcast, we’ve reported on some the changes that are taking place. However, many of them are being drawn under the umbrella of Friends of Porty Prom (and Beach) which held its first ever AGM this past week. David Calder was there.

    The Joyful Christian Worker

    The Joyful Christian Worker

We are born again to go out and serve. Also, to have a zeal and excitement when we serve. Peter had a lot of zeal for going out and serving the Lord. We are valuable to God but sometimes before we are valuable we have to be humbled first. This happened with Peter. Peter overcame that with God’s leading and even led him to be involved in some miracles such as Tabitha. Tabitha was a joyful servant and did what she could for the Lord but became sick and died, but when Peter came in the room. Once he was in the room he made everyone leave the room to pray over Tabitha and after that he told her to arise and she did. With that many believed in the Lord. Both Peter and Tabitha were joyful workers of the Lord. Just as they were joyful workers we should be as well. Please join Pastor Scheving as he preaches on “The Joyful Christian Worker.”

    111 HiFi Corner

    111 HiFi Corner

HiFi Corner was founded almost 100 years ago, though not under its current name which first appeared in the 60s. What has been consistent however has been its commitment to supplying the best quality equipment - from gramophone and wireless to the latest amplifier and home cinema. Until now, its home has been in the centre of Edinburgh. But this week, it moved to Joppa Road. Porty Podcast Producer David Calder went to find out why.

2018-07-08 – What God is expecting from me?

2018-07-08 – What God is expecting from me?
What God is expecting from me? What could this powerful God expect from me, a simple human? Good news! Although we were the people under the leadership of ourselves and the devil, God sent His Son to rescue us! Do you think that God did everything for no reason? NO!

We are to serve the Glory of God.

In Joppa there was a woman named Tabitha. She was a simple woman but even though she was not rich, she did good things for everyone around her. She became sick and died. Peter came and told her to get up and she did. This was a great thing. But it wasn’t for her benefit, or even for the benefit of those she touched. It was for the Glory of God. This is what people will notice. It is time for us to take action. So people will notice. Do something that has value to God.

It is good for you to go to church but God wants more. He wants you to go further. He wants you to touch the people around you.

Everyone in church looks so holy, but when you ask the people around them it is something different. This is the face that you are actually showing on behalf of God. This does not reflect well on God.

There was a widow with a daughter. She had a sewing machine. During the war she buried the machine. This was very valuable. An evangelist came to her town and preached. She dug up the machine and gave it to the church. Seven months later her daughter became very sick. The doctors tried to help but the daughter died. The woman was crying “My machine!” She was reminding God that she gave away her machine for the church. God heard he pleas and answered. So a man came and prayed for the girl. The doctors were preparing her for burial but allowed the man to pray. She came back to life! God honors those who honor Him!

The bible says that we will see the difference between those who serve Him and those who do not. But these days it is hard to see the difference. The church in the world and the world in the church. There is much confusion.

The time has come to stand up and show the glory of the Lord. We need to be different from other people. We need to do good things. If we aren’t doing anything good for God, He may see you as useless. This is a big danger.
