Das macht sie interessant für verschiedenste Bereiche, etwa wird sie in der Trinkwasseraufbereitung verwendet oder in der Produktion von Kosmetika und Medizinprodukten. Chitosan hilft, eingearbeitet in Lebensmittelverpackungen, Foodwaste vorzubeugen, da das Biopolymer die Haltbarkeit der Lebensmittel verlängert. Und auch im Pflanzenschutz kann Chitosan gegen bestimmte Pilze und Bakterien wirken - als biologischer Schädlingsbekämpfer. Der große Wermutstropfen an Chitosan: Der übliche Gewinnungsprozess ist ressourcenaufwändig, wenig ökologisch und Schalentiere müssen dabei sterben. Molekularbiologin Sabine Gruber vom Studiengang Bioengineering an der FH Campus Wien hat in mehreren von der FFG geförderten Forschungsprojekten mit Pilzen als Basis von Chitosan große Erfolge erzielt. Dermatophytosis can be a frustrating disease process. There are many different diagnostic tests and treatment options. This episode reviews "Diagnosis and treatment of dermatophytosis in dogs and cats: clinical consensus guidelines of the World Association for Veterinary Dermatology". Suzanne Simard is the forest ecologist who has proven, beyond doubt, that trees communicate with each other — that a forest is a single organism wired for wisdom and care. Simard found that the processes that make for a high-functioning forest mirror the maps of the human brain that we’re also just now drawing. All of this turns out to be catching up with intelligence long held in aboriginal science. She calls the mature hub trees in a forest “Mother Trees” — parenting, eldering, in a mode of mutuality and reciprocity, modeling what we also know to be true of genuinely flourishing human ecosystems.

One day after bathing your son, you’re getting ready to feed him and notice that there are white patches on his tongue. You call his doctor, who tells you to bring your son in to be seen. After examining him, the doctor says that your son has thrush. What is this? Why did it occur? How is it treated?

Dermatophytosis- one of the great imitators. Though, "classically" people think dermatophytosis should appear as a circular lesion, it usually doesn't. It can appear as erythema, scaling, crusting, ulceration, focal kerion, etc. It can really look like anything!

This episodes gives a cliff note version of clinical signs, diagnosis (cytology, DTM, PCR, biopsy, etc.), and treatment.
