Episode 157: The Crack of the Bat, the Smell of the Outfield Grass

The Let's Go to the Phones Boys are BACK and we're reveling in the romanticism of baseball. The crack of the bat, the smell of the outfield grass, the glint of the lights off Gabe Kapler's stupid hipster glasses as he makes yet another pitching change....what a game! The boys discuss the Phillies recent hot streak with SPECIAL GUEST Kevin Kinkead of Crossing Broad and the Crossing Broadcast. Kevin gives us his thoughts on the Phillies, the quagmire that is the 76ers, and lets us in on some special inside-knowledge about a potential change in the Philadelphia media landscape.

    Geaux Tigers

    Geaux Tigers

As June rolls to a close, Gabe Kapler surprises us in the best of ways, and the NHL provides a Police Blotter and Crosstraining in one convenient and disappointing package. All Star Voting is all about the boyfriends, rigged or not. Will Julio Rodriguez have that Hometown Harper Derby magic? The SELL shirt from the As reverse boycott scores a place in Cooperstown. We heartily endorse tourism by baseball players (we’re looking at you, Christopher Morel) as they enjoy London and plan for more overseas series. But seriously, how about those Reds? Patti gives Pottymouth dibs on Elly, but will likely regret it after seeing him play in person this week. BF Mickey Moniak goes 5-5 in the Angels rout of the Rockies, and LAA takes Mike Moustakas as their spoils of war. The College World Series showcases jello shots and racy dance moves and where has it been all our lives (we ask while wearing our LSU gear). Pottymouth provides excellent pro-tips for concert-going at ballparks and does not fall for Patti’s tricks to get her to say Citifield > Fenway, even with the Lindor family’s influence.

We say, “Your Venn Diagram is here,” “I made up for it with day drinking,”  and a surprising amount about home births. The Bounce Podcast Ep. 75 - 2022 NBA Finals Preview, Celtics or Warriors?, Heat Season Is Over, Who looks Worse: Kyrie or KD?, Darvin Ham New Lakers HC, Kapernick's NFL Tryout, Gape Kapler Protesting, & Curry Needs A NBA Finals MVP
Welcome to Episode Seventy-Five of The Bounce Podcast with your cohosts, Jabari Anderson & Loreal Nix. The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 100-96 in Game 7. They will head to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2010. Jayson Tatum became the first ever Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP averaging 25 points, 8 rebounds, & 5 assists per game in the series. How impressed are you in the Celtics’ run to the NBA Finals? (1:21). The Miami Heat’s season is over. They made a 11-0 run late in the fourth quarter and Jimmy Butler missed a potential go ahead three pointer with less than 20 seconds in the game. Did Jimmy Butler made the right decision at the end? (15:54). In 2019, Kyrie Irving left the Boston Celtics and Kevin Durant left the Golden State Warriors to play for the Brooklyn Nets. Now, the Celtics and Warriors are in the NBA Finals while Kyrie and KD are at home. Which player would look worse if their former team wins the title: Kyrie or KD? (25:12). Darvin Ham was hired over the weekend as the coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has played for the NBA from 1996-2005 including the Detroit Pistons and has been an assistant coach since 2008. Do you like or dislike this coaching move for the Lakers? (36:32). NBA Season Success, Failure, or Neutral: Dallas Mavericks & Miami Heat (43:55) Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders gave Colin Kaepernick a NFL tryout. According to reports, Colin Kaepernick’s workout was positive. Will Kapernick play next season? (50:06). San Francisco Giants manager Gape Kapler has an ongoing protest of skipping the National Anthem as a response to the Uvalde shooting. Although he skipped his protest for Memorial Day, he still has it day to day. (55:27). Does Steph Curry need to win a NBA Finals MVP to be in the top 10 all time conversation? (1:02:40). 2022 NBA Finals Preview: Boston Celtics vs. Golden State Warriors (1:06:04). Stay Tuned for more on The Bounce Podcast.

Ep. 62: Fantasy Slap, Kapler's Distraction, Month of Mookie, Legit or Bull Sh*t of Contenders and Pretenders

The boys kick off this week's episode discussing the weirdest beef in all of sports: Joc Pederson vs. Tommy Pham's fantasy football scuffle. After, they give their perspectives on Gabe Kapler's shunning of the National Anthem on Memorial Day. Mookie Betts is back and the boys declare May the Month of Mookie! Afterwards, they bring back a listener segment favorite Legit or Bull Shit, where they pick which .500 teams (or close to) are contenders and which are pretenders. Same with the current division leaders, which are actually contending and which are flat out pretending? The boys round out the show with Fantasy Factory and Collection Corner.

In our fantasy league, no one gets slapped

In our fantasy league, no one gets slapped

After a field trip to see the Fredericksburg Nationals, Patti and the Pottymouth recorded this snack-sized, but jam-packed, episode over pizza and beer and perilously close to corn hole. The good news is we did NOT get kicked out of the ballpark (officially or recreationally) for sharing any of our opinions which appeared to differ greatly from the majority of the fans in the park, if t-shirt sentiments are to be believed, nor for the expressly stated “no profanity” rule. The other good news is Stephen Strasburg looked great in his re-hab assignment,we got to meet Patti’s adopted minor leaguer, the FredNats won, and we found Adventure Brewing and Rosie’s Pizza Truck.

This week was a tipping point in “sticking to sports” as calls for sensible gun laws permeated media interviews, video boards, and social media. Gabe Kapler takes a stand by not standing but making sure we know why, Natasha Cloud calls for backup and Sean Doolittle responds, and the Yankees and Rays social media teams jump into the fray.

Pottymouth witnessed Juan Soto’s 200th double and shared quality time with the Nat’s Woo Guy. In other boyfriend news, Ildemara Vargas goes to Rochester, Bobby Witt becomes a doubles machine, George Springer makes a difference, and this piece about Adley Rutschman is a must-read of the week. Gerardo Parra retires – but not completely. Pottymouth profiles Verónica Hernández, of the Modesto Nuts, the first Latina GM in an affiliated team, and holds her example out as a possible career path for Patti. In our Police Blotter, MLB calls out ballparks at all levels for not providing the required adequate facilities for women traveling with teams, and gives them a deadline to show how they will make it right. Josh Donaldson is suspended for calling Tim Anderson “Jackie,” and Tommy Pham is out for three games for slapping Joc Pederson over old fantasy league beef.

We say “They shuffle on the bottom,” “That’s my Woo situation,” and “Really good with pickles!”

Ep. 35: MLB Awards & the Annual Long Gone Podcast Awards

This week the boys discuss the finalists for the MLB awards that were recently announced and predict who will take home the accolades. They then follow this up with giving out their own awards for this past season. You don't want to miss it! They round out the show with collection corner and some quotes about the late-great Bob Gibson.

Your Cat Fur Won’t Help You Now

Your Cat Fur Won’t Help You Now

NCiB’s West Coast Correspondent and ace fantasy boyfriend baseball league manager Deborah guest hosts with Pottymouth while Patti hits the beach. She brings the boyfriend cred with a blast from Phillies past with a nod to Mike Schmidt and Greg Luzinski. There’s so much happening in Kiké Korner, from toppling postseason batting records left and right, to a Bold and Beautiful star turn. Current BFs in the postseason feature sexy defense and bats to the rescue from Late Night LaMonte and Chris Taylor, Deborah’s Giants and Dodgers BFs. Bonus vocabulary lesson: splash hit. Pottymouth’s former Angels BF Jose Iglesias now drives the home run laundry cart in the RS dugout and generally brings the joy.

We close the book on the Dodgers/Giants series with a full-season lens, not just that amazing Game 5: The check swing giveth and the check swing taketh away. There’s qHAR love and a bright future for Camilo Doval, Pitching goes all timey-wimey in the Hammers/Dodgers series, and Chris Sale is terrifying in a Strasburg’s evil twin kind of way. Austin Riley is clearly the star of the post-season Austins. We revisit Moral Alignment debates with countering the “no prick” Giants clubhouse with highs and lows in manager Gabe Kapler’s past, and that fuckin’ chop vs the evil empire of the west.

The Police Blotter identifies former Twin’s pitcher Sam Dyson as the latest suspended MLB player to sign with another league -- in this case the LMPRC. Check out Pottymouth’s Winter Baseball picks and Words Above Replacement’s streaming guide for how to watch international ball. We say competitive ping pong, Honkball, cat fur, and  United Wiffle Ball National Championship Tournament

Deborah’s shirt was designed for the Oakland A’s by local artist Jesse Hernandez @Urbanaztec. It was a promotion for their Native American Heritage Night in 2018 but you can still buy it here:Oakland Athletics x Native American Heritage night T- Shirt It features the A’s logo built from iconography drawn from tribes all over California.

Episode 94 - Firmly Stuck In Hell

Episode 94 - Firmly Stuck In Hell

Another week in Hell means another episode of Sports Lordz to get you through it. This week we begin our show with our new recurring segment, “Essential Jim’s Class War Corner”, where we hear some of Jimmy’s frustrations with a certain someone and give an update regarding our Hellworld Fantasy Baseball League. We then get into Donald Trump’s most recent series of moments that are literally killing us all and destroying the world. FUN! After that uplifting segment, we turn our attention to Major League Baseball as Opening Day is here and baseball is back, baby! But is Covid-19 going to allow baseball to actually happen for a full season? Spoiler alert: we don’t think so. We then get into baseball a little more and discuss what actually happens to old pitchers once they leave the majors, and this secret might surprise you. We also give a tip of the cap to San Francisco manager Gabe Kapler for being on the right side of things, talk about ho baseball needs to be more accessible to kids in underserved communities, and Clayton Kershaw opens his mouth for some reason. We then switch to football and give an update on former Auburn head coach, Tommy Tuberville, and the NFL faces player backlash as they try to figure out how to restart their season. Later we get into some more random stories including Jeremy Roenick’s not at all batshit crazy lawsuit against NBC, our Atlanta sports fan hearts dreading our teams returning, the Warriors getting a pass for some reason, new Hawks uniforms and more! Shutout to everyone who joined us on Twitch last week, we’ll be streaming more the rest of this summer, including MLB Opening Night. Remember, just because sports are back does not mean the pandemic is over. Please keep wearing masks when leaving your home, wash your hands after being out, and be extra nice to essential workers doing things for you. Stay alive friends!

This episode is brought to you by Major League Baseball Opening Day! Let’s keep this rolling until someone dies!
