It's been a while since we've reviewed a film after 2000. Y Tu Mamá También has been on my list and it's the perfect film for this summer heat and the spirit of adventure and exploration.

Me and Jai had a great time diving into this world that neither one of us have visited in quite a while. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón who takes you on a short but fulfilling journey that leaves you questioning and reminiscing about your own similar experiences.

We found a lot of behind the scenes info, drool over Gael, and realize just how much we relate to Luisa.

    Ep. #372 - Old

Despite its relative financial success and reviews that are more "mixed" than bad, M. Night Shyamalan has become such a FH all-star, that we had to check out Old: The Beach that Olds People. (As Dan is fond of saying, "Don't get hung up on our name.") Unsurprisingly, it gave us a ton to chew on. Please don't be mad at us just cause we don't think it's a masterpiece, Blank Check buddies. Maybe y'all should skip this one. Everyone else in the world -- enjoy!

    M. Night Shyamalan – the director of The Sixth Sense, Split, Signs, and Unbreakable - once again takes the audience on a wild ride through mystery and horror.

This time, he’s doing it on a remote beach resort where our protagonists start to experience “changes” and predictably, chaos ensues – Gael Garcia Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Alex Wolff, and Thomasin McKensie play a family at the center of this chaos.  Has Shymalan delivered for us another film that’s genuinely scary or frighteningly bad?  Let’s find out!

WC: Y Tu Mamá También (And Your Mother Too) 2001 (dir. Alfonso Cuarón) Rated 18
This film tells a coming-of-age story about two teenage boys who take a road trip with a woman in her late twenties. It stars Mexican actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal and Spanish actress Maribel Verdú, in the leading roles. The film is part of the road movie genre, set in 1999 against the backdrop of the political and economic realities of present-day Mexico, specifically at the end of the uninterrupted 71-year line of Mexican presidents from the Institutional Revolutionary Party and the rise of the opposition led by Vicente Fox. The film is recognized for its explicit depiction of sex and drug use, which caused complications in the film's rating certificate in various countries. In 2002, the film was released in English-speaking markets under its original Spanish title and opened in limited release within the United States. In Mexico, the film earned $2.2 million its first weekend in June 2001, making it the highest box office opening in Mexican cinema history. In 2003, the film was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards as well as Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globe Awards in 2002. WC: La Mala Educación (Bad Education) 2004 (dir. Pedro Almodóvar) Rated 15
La Mala Educación is a 2004 Spanish drama film written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar. Starring Gael García Bernal, Fele Martínez, Daniel Giménez Cacho and Lluís Homar, the film focuses on two reunited childhood friends and lovers caught up in a stylised murder mystery. Along with metafiction, sexual abuse by Catholic priests, transsexuality and drug use are also important themes and devices in the plot, which led the MPAA to give the film an NC-17 rating. The film was released on 19 March 2004 in Spain and 10 September 2004 in Mexico. It was also screened at many international film festivals such as Cannes, New York, Moscow and Toronto before its US release on November 19, 2004. The film received critical acclaim, and was seen as a return to Almodovar's dark stage, placing it alongside films such as Matador (1986) and Law of Desire (1987). Masterpiece|WC: Amores Perros (Love's a Bitch) 2000 (dir. Alejandro González Iñárritu) Rated 18
Amores perros is a 2000 Mexican drama thriller film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and written by Guillermo Arriaga. Amores perros is the first installment in González Iñárritu's "Trilogy of Death", succeeded by 21 Grams and Babel.[4] It is an anthology film constructed as a triptych: it contains three distinct stories connected by a car accident in Mexico City. The stories centre on a teenager in the slums who gets involved in dogfighting; a model who seriously injures her leg; and a mysterious hitman. The stories are linked in various ways, including the presence of dogs in each of them. Jaded love is the focus of this film's many narratives, whether it is the love between two sets of brothers, a man and his mistress, a father and daughter or a man and his dog. The two men soon witness the great disparities in South America, encountering poor peasants and observing the exploitation of labor by wealthy industrialists. When they reach a leper colony in Peru, Ernesto's values have changed so much that he sides with the sufferers, forgetting his own comfort.
