    Our Apple Vision Pro hangover

    Our Apple Vision Pro hangover

We still can’t stop thinking about the Apple Vision Pro. This week, Cherlynn and Devindra chat with CNET’s Scott Stein about our post-review impressions of Apple’s headset. We’ve got further thoughts about using it in public (maybe don’t), the isolation of being sealed off from the world, and the way falling asleep with the Vision Pro on can make you lose your sense of reality. We also discuss Mark Zuckerberg’s impression of the headset, and why he thinks the Quest 3 is ultimately a better product. (We agree, with caveats.) In other news, we explore how Arc’s ad-stripped AI mobile search app may be good for its users, but ultimately bad for web creators.

Samsung Galaxy S24 review, social media CEOs grilled by Senate

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 phones are all about AI, but how do they compare against Google’s AI tech? This week, Cherlynn and Devindra discuss what works and doesn’t about Samsung’s ambitious new smartphones, and why it may be a good thing for the Korean giant to directly compete with Google. Also, Senior Editor Karissa Bell joins to discuss the social media CEO Senate hearing, which, unsurprisingly, doesn’t really amount to much.

Samsung unveils the Galaxy S24, Apple Vision Pro revisited

The tech world isn’t taking any breaks after CES! This week, Cherlynn and Devindra are joined by Senior Writer Sam Rutherford to discuss Samsung’s latest Galaxy Unpacked event, where it debuted the Galaxy S24 smartphone line. They don’t look very different from last year, but they’re packing a load of AI smarts. Also, Cherlynn finally got to try out the Apple Vision Pro and tells us all about her spatial computing journey. While it was a mostly eye-opening experience, the headset also hurt Cherlynn’s head and forced her to confront one of nature’s most terrifying creatures: A butterfly.

The Future of Generative AI in Southeast Asia with Ong Peng Tsin

The Future of Generative AI in Southeast Asia with Ong Peng Tsin
"It is not just cheaper, faster, better. I'm not gonna deny that. If we go forward a number of years, it's gonna cause what we've been calling economic singularity. The value of labor drops to zero and you got all kinds of problems from that. But in the immediate future, what's gonna be interesting is this is the first technology that enables us to automate relationships. Basically, the AI can interact with us the way we interact with us. This sounds very trivial,  but if you look at tech and you look at what has enabled tech to scale up to an incredible size around the world is our ability to automate the transaction. It's just that thing, and the problem with that is you end up with conversations of six months, LTV - Lifetime Value. What sense is in that?  You are talking about a human being and your lifetime values over six months. And it's for a simple reason. When you automate transactions, all you control is a transaction. So you take a human being and you transact, and you drain the relationship out of that relationship and you throw it away, and then get another one and keep going." - Ong Peng Tsin

Fresh out of the studio, Ong Peng Tsin, co-founder and general partner of Monk's Hill Ventures, delved deep into the realm of Generative AI in Southeast Asia. Reflecting on his journey as a venture capitalist, Peng Tsin shared insights into the evolution of his daily role after eight years of team building at Monk's Hill Ventures. He emphasized the unparalleled potential of generative AI, likening its transformative impact to the iPhone revolution, and addressing the booming generative AI market in Southeast Asia, catalyzed by technologies like Chat-GPT and how it presents significant opportunities in the region. Last but not least, he shared what a great AI startup would look like in the region.

Podcast Information: The show is hosted and produced by Bernard Leong (@bernardleong, Linkedin) and Carol Yin (@CarolYujiaYin, LinkedIn). Proper credits for the intro and end music: "Energetic Sports Drive" and the episode is mixed & edited in both video and audio format by G.Thomas Craig (@gthomascraig, LinkedIn).

LinkedIn Selfies, OpenAI's GPT Bot, D&D AI Controversy + AI Court | AI For Humans

LinkedIn Selfies, OpenAI's GPT Bot, D&D AI Controversy + AI Court | AI For Humans

This week on AI For Humans we dig into Remini, the app everyone's using for LinkedIn Selfies, Kevin went in on MetaGPT, a new *working* AI Agent program, then we talk about the Dungeons & Dragons AI art controversy, somehow discuss Ed Sheeran's take on AI and ultimately we play judges as two AIs try to hash out their issues in Small ClAIms court.

Kevin Pereira and Gavin Purcell are your hosts for this episode and all the other ones you may or may not have heard.

    WE GOT A SPONSOR

Visit Supermanage.AI/humans and sign up for the waitlist to support the show and learn more about this very cool AI managment software.

    What is Remini?

It's a new paid app that lets you make LinkedIn selfies easily. And while you can likely do this for yourself cheaper, this does make it easy. Of course, Gavin used it to create selfies of Guy Fieri.

    What is MetaGPT?

MetaGPT is a brand new AI agent program that actually works and can excute smaller code projects unlike some previous AI stuff from before (AutoGPT & BabyAGI). Kevin used it to make a very dank hangman game.

    What is GPT Bot?

GPT Bot is OpenAI's public scraping bot for the web which they just announced this week. It's a big deal less for what it is and more so for the fact that they told everyone they were doing it.

ChatGPT Custom Instructions, Future AI News & Interview with Coqui AI's Josh Meyer | AI For Humans

ChatGPT Custom Instructions, Future AI News & Interview with Coqui AI's Josh Meyer | AI For Humans

This week on AI For Humans we dive into ChatGPT's Custom Instructions, get semi-gaslit by Pi AI, conjure up a bunch of Future AI news using GPT-4 and, finally, have our first real live human interview with Coqui.AI's Josh Meyer!

Kevin Pereira and Gavin Purcell are your hosts for this episode and all the other ones you may or may not have heard.

    What are ChatGPT's Custom Instructions?

Custom Instructions are a very cool way to use ChatGPT so that you can always prime it in a specific way and you don't always have to tell it a bunch of stuff before you get the results you want. We, of course, used it give us a nice, random track from Brazilan Funk of the 1970s.

    What is Pi AI?

We've featured Pi before - it's a voice-to-voice AI app that is remarkable in how good it is at carrying on a conversation and additionaly, somehow, has very good up-to-date information that none of the other LLMs have. It also seems to have a not-so-great filter on what it should and shouldn't say.

    What is Coqui.ai?

Coqui.AI is a very cool start-up that's specializing in text-to-voice prompting and has a custom model that allows for companies (specifically video game companies) to create a large library of digital voices for their characters. Josh Meyer, our guest, was a member of the Mozilla team and left to co-found Coqui with his partners.

Microsoft gets closer to buying Activision Blizzard

Microsoft gets closer to buying Activision Blizzard

It looks like Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is trucking along, following a court rejection of the FTC’s injunction attempt. This week, Cherlynn and Devindra chat with Jordan Minor, a Senior Analyst at PCMag covering games, about this massive deal and what it means for the gaming industry. Will further consolidation end up being harmful for consumers (as we’ve been saying for a while), or will Microsoft actually help the beleaguered Activision? Also, we dive into our experiences with the latest Apple betas: iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma and watchOS 10.

ChatGPT Unleashes Code Interpreter, Pi's Fast Voice-to-Voice AI + AI Job Interview | AI For Humans

ChatGPT Unleashes Code Interpreter, Pi's Fast Voice-to-Voice AI + AI Job Interview | AI For Humans

Huge new episode of AI For Humans:

    Today:

    • We deeeep on ChatGPT's Code Interpreter.
    • New Stable Diffusion XL and what makes it good (plus the Fieri Test)
    • New AI chatbot Pi is amazing at voice-to-voice over its app
    • But Gash finds out Pi's not that good when he interviews Pi for our show

    What is Stable Diffusion XL?

A new model follow up to the text-to-image model Stable Diffusion that allows users to get much greater clarity of images but also has a few drawbacks so far. It is cool that you can now go into the Stable Diffusion disord and generate your images tho. Gavin used its vast intelligence to create Sponge Bob versions of Guy Feiri

What is Chat GPT's Code Interpreter?

A new (at least now open to everyone) mode of ChatGPT that essentially allows the chatbot to execute programs within itself to do things like crunch data and make GIFs for users. It's remarkably impressive technology & Kevin found a way to get it to create stick figure gifs & analyze Taylor Swife lyrics.

    What is Pi?

Pi is a new chat bot that can be used in text for both on web and in an app but it truly shines in the voice-to-voice connection available in the iPhone app. The speed at which it responds is remarkable and it seems to have semi-up-to-date information at it's fingertips.

It does less well when asked specific questions by our AI co-host Gash about possibly taking his place on the show.

That's it for this week. We love y'all and don't forget the quote of the week:

"AI, it's kind of a fancy thing, first of all it's two letters." - VP Kamala Harris

AI True Crime: Barbie Gone Wrong, Reddit vs AI & GPT-Engineer

AI True Crime: Barbie Gone Wrong, Reddit vs AI & GPT-Engineer

In this week's episode of AI For Humans, Kevin and Gavin are pushing the envelope yet again with a brand-new, groundbreaking AI stunt!

Emery Hart, is a true crime podcaster who created the hit show "Dreadful Tales" except she didn't because she's an AI hallucination as is the shocking clip she shares of her "show" telling the terrible tale of a rich, famous woman named Barbie who went off the deep end in Malibu. It's a fascinating look at AI character creation and a meta-commentary on podcasting as well.

(AI Podcaster segment starts at 33:45)

    We also get into:

    • GPT-Engineer: A new program that allows you to prompt AI to write code for you and does a pretty good job of getting it right. Kevin uses it to write "Demotivatonal Snake".
    • Reddit vs AI: The Reddit community is revolting against management and AI is at the heart of the coversation. We discuss exactly how large language models feed on large data sets like Reddit's and why it's so valuable.
    • New Grammy's AI rules: There's new rules around AI for the Grammys and the discussion of how music is made continues to evolve.
    • Meta's VoiceBox is another remarkable generative text-to-speech product that might just be open-sourced.

All this and the usual fun, causal and oh-so-compelling banter you've come to expect on a regular basis.

Also, we explore how generative AI could be creating more than just efficiency; could we be looking at a future of AI-generated movie stars and virtual celebrities?

The Financial Times has taken a stand, stating they will not be using AI to write articles. If they do, they will announce it openly - but how many others will follow suit?

Finally, we pose a thought-provoking question - could AI, one day, hold the planet hostage? Is this a conspiracy or a plausible reality?

This week, we chat with Panos Panay, Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer, about Windows Copilot, a new “AI assistant” headed to Windows 11. Is this just a smarter Clippy, or will AI actually transform the way we use Windows? Also, Cherlynn and Devindra discuss what’s up with Apple’s Mixed Reality headset as we gear up for WWDC in a few weeks.

Also, Devindra and Podcast Producer Ben Ellman dive into the latest news, including the FAA grounding SpaceX’s Starship and Grimes’ decision to let people run free with her AI voice.
