    DDH - *That* Guy...

    DDH - *That* Guy...
Everybody knows *that* guy. You know.. the one who has to keep asking weird questions or making absurd pronouncements when the meeting is wrapping up and everybody wants to leave. It’s almost like they are utterly oblivious and definitely not reading the room. It terms of the Constitutional convention, *that* guy is named George Mason. And while the Convention has a scheduled eleven day break, starting as soon as the day ends, he wants to bring up a bunch of obtuse points. Right Now…

    Buffalo Alice Exit 314

    Buffalo Alice Exit 314
Not that long ago, I was driving across North Dakota on I-94. At Mile 314, there is an exit sign that caught my attention. I don’t really know why. It just seemed to me to be the embodiment of being… well… normal. As we watch the circus that is our Congress and political system, maybe it’s time to take that exit?

"The Three 3 Qualities All Golf Instructors Need to be Successful," Steve Loesher, Director of Player Development, Troon Golf

In this episode, Steve Loesher, PGA, Director of Player Development for Troon Golf discusses the three main qualities he believes all golf instructors need to have in order to be successful in their golf instruction business.   First, Steve takes us back down his path to becoming a Director of Player Development, which began as an Assistant professional. Steve transitioned into the instruction/coaching world when he began coaching the George Mason Men's Golf Team while working at the local country club.  Steve then transitioned into the Director of Instruction role for the Nike Golf Learning Center which was the beginning of him finding his niche of helping facilities, academies, and golf operations develop and expand their instructional programming benefiting the overall operation of the facility.  Steve's development in his profession continued onward and upward into the role of Director of Player Development for a golf management company, Billy Casper Golf which, which had 18 clubs under its umbrella. In 2016 Steve was awarded the 2016 Middle Atlantic PGA Player Development Award and continued expanding his portfolio and deveoping some of the top instructors around the country including Erika Larkin, Cathy Kim, Marissa Crow, and Adam Harrell. With Troon Golf purchasing Billy Casper Golf in 2021, Steve is now the Director of Player Development for Troon Golf where he continues to flourish in helping instructors under the Troon Golf umbrella begin, develop, and expand their current instructional operations, uniquely to their location and allotted resources.

Ford Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute,  Director of Grove City College's Institute for Faith and Freedom, author of James Madison: America's First Politician, about Madison's long political career, his allies and adversaries,  and his influence on American politics.

    Jim Larrañaga

    Jim Larrañaga
At 72-years old, Jim Larranaga is a kid coach in the ACC. Jim Boeheim is 77, Mike Krzyzewski is 75, even Leonard Hamilton is 73. But there's an excellent chance that Larranaga and his Miami Hurricanes will join some of the others in the joy of March Madness. Larranaga was, of course, the darling of the dance in 2006 when he led 11th-seeded George Mason to the Final Four. Before the semi-final - a loss to eventual champion Florida - Lesley told Jim that most people had only thought of George Mason as the "Father of the Bill of Rights." But that run by the Patriots is why we love college basketball. At Miami, Larranaga has a team full of perimeter players, what CBS' Jon Rothstein calls "more guards than Shawshank," and a defense that steals much more than it can eat. Led by a coach of Cuban descent who grew up in Bronx and played at Providence in the days of Ernie D, the Hurricanes are in very good hands.

    Ep. 53: ESPN’s Dianna Russini

    Ep. 53: ESPN’s Dianna Russini

While discussing disgruntled Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers during a recent appearance on ESPN’s morning show, Russini managed to cast her husband in a glaringly mediocre light, leading his friends to tell him, “Yo--your wife just trucked you on TV.” After amusingly recounting that episode, Russini tells us about her childhood, from her early journalistic aspirations (and her father’s fatefully situated job as a plumber) to her prolific and ultra-aggressive feats on the athletic field. As she and Natalie swap stories of on-the-field transgressions, Dianna relates her journey from overmatched Division 1 soccer player to starter and co-captain--including the red card she received on Parents’ Day--and tells why she preferred the throat to the crotch when it came to handing out punishment. We also learn about her father’s harrowing escape from the World Trade Center during 9/11, what provoked her tirade on the Jets’ practice field and why she questioned an NFL head coach who told her not to stay out late at the Combine.

    Beginnings
    - Her childhood growing up in Fairfax, Virginia, outside of Washington DC, where she attended Thomas Jefferson High School

    - Her start as a sprinter at summer track meets and her desire to be like Wilma Rudolph but her even stronger desire to be a gymnast like Nadia Comaneci.
    - The potential benefits of using other sports in your training to improve and unlock our athleticism
    - The experience running in high school at that time, on asphalt tracks before the internet
    - Her personal best race where she won an elite mile race at MIT while still in high school

    Tennessee & Early Professional
    - Why she left Tennessee after a rough freshman year and had to be persuaded to come back
    - Her experience running with Joetta Clark, Carol Davidson, Cathy Rattray, winning the NCAA title and competing against Suzy Favor Hamilton
    - Training as part of Nike Athletics West, which included runners like Mary Slaney and Kim Gallagher
    - Her experience racing at the Pan Am Games in Havana, Cuba, where she won the 1500 meters, ran a personal best at 800m and challenged Cuban legend Ana Quirot, and was one of very few Americans to visit Cuba at that time
    - Her experiences at the US Olympic Trials and why she chose to run the double (800m and 1500m) at both
    - Why she made various life choices, from living and training in Boston without a coach to having a baby when she was at her peak
    - The challenges she faced trying to be a competitive athlete and mother, from losing weight to losing sponsors and coaches
    - The approaches Alisa took to stay noticeable and retain sponsorships

    Masters Career
    - How showing her athletes at George Mason how to run an 800 inspired her to keep racing at the age of 38
    - How her competitiveness drives her, and her recent experience chasing down a 12-year old at a local 5k
    - Why the current 55+ world record 800m of 2:22 is still possible for her when she turns 55 in September
    - The experience of competing at a masters competition
    - Why we need challenges to get the best out of ourselves
    - The students she's currently coaching and the advice she has for student-athletes affected by the pandemic
    - Why the worst thing in the world is to have an opportunity arrive and you aren't prepared to seize it
    - And finally, Alisa's Go Be More, to try and be more inspirational and reach more people with her message.
