A Conversation with Governor George Allen | Advancing US State Competition | Energy Independence | US Unsustainable Debt | Convention of States for Balanced Budget Amendment | America's Role in Ukraine
Join America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/) Radio co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy with former Governor George Allen from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our conversation is focused on the following topics: —Advancing U.S. state competition and the urgency to make America more competitive in the global arena. —Securing energy independence in America | Initiative for a modular nuclear reactor in Virginia. —The unsustainable US debt exacerbated by the growing interest rate. —A Convention of States is much closer than you think. Learn about the growing momentum for a Convention of States aimed at creating a balanced budget amendment. Listen to how many states have joined this principled initiative. “I wish it were possible to obtain a single amendment to our Constitution. I would be willing to depend on that alone for the reduction of the administration of our government to the genuine principles of its Constitution; I mean an article, taking from the Federal government the power of borrowing.” — Thomas Jefferson's statement just two years after the Constitution had been in effect, argued for a a Constitutional amendment to curtail Federal government spending. Brief Bio: At the conclusion of his term as Governor of Virginia, George Allen viewed with satisfaction the monumental reforms his administration achieved that made Virginia a national model in economic development, public safety, education accountability, and welfare reform. The Washington Post called Allen “one of the most influential governors in recent Virginia history”. The Richmond Times-Dispatch recently praised Allen’s campaign “among the most policy-driven campaigns in gubernatorial history.” Keeping the promises he made to Virginians, and working with a Democratic-controlled General Assembly, Allen successfully cut taxes by more than $600 million; instituted high academic Standards of Learning and School Performance Report Cards; made neighborhoods safer with the abolition of parole; initiated historic, pro-work welfare reforms; enacted the nation’s first Public-Private Transportation funding system; repealed or amended 71% of all regulations; reduced the size of government with greater efficiency and accountability; and grew the economy – making sure the world knew “Virginia is Open for Business”. With added revenues, Allen was able to freeze tuition rates at universities and community colleges. Allen’s administration recruited over $13 billion in new investments and created more than 300,000 net new private sector jobs. When Allen was sworn in as Governor in 1994, coal and cigarettes were Virginia’s top exports; after four years of Allen’s tireless dedication to economic-development, semiconductor chips became Virginia’s top export, leading U.S. News and World Report to dub Virginia the “Silicon Dominion”. The Truth About Term Limits | A Conversation with Tamara Scott and John Strathman

The Truth About Term Limits | A Conversation with Tamara Scott and John Strathman

They want you to believe it, and a lot of us have. They’ll use your enemies to justify the stance and their argument is pretty compelling. There is just one problem- they’re wrong. Today we talk about term-limits. I used to be a believer. After some lengthy conversations and my own research, it is clear to me that term-limits are not the answer to our problems. In fact, term-limits would create a whole new world of problems for us all.

Join me as I discuss the hidden agenda within the term-limit camp with Tamara Scott, national committeewoman of the Republican Party of Iowa, and John Strathman, state central committee member for the Republican Party of Iowa.

    In this episode:

1:15 – Introducing Tamara Scott John Strathman
2:49 – Tamara Scott dives into the history (and failed experiment) of term-limits
5:33 – Intentional political agendas to control the Christian church
8:00 – Congress turnover data from John Strathman and why term-limits are not the answer
13:11 – Why term-limits would bring an unfavorable reality for conservatives
16:58 – SHOCKING statistics on campaign donations coming in from out of state (even in Iowa) and how term limits would lead to even more corruption
19:31 – Two clear examples where term-limits would only make a bad situation worse
23:57 – If term-limits are not the solution to the dysfunction in Congress, what is the answer?
25:41 – The agenda to overhaul the Constitution of the United States
27:45 – Article 6 and the failure to uphold the oath of office
30:32 – The people have the power (if they choose to use it)
32:50 – Should the office of POTUS have term-limits?
    34:10 – Convention of States
42:35 – The other “constitutions”, federal spending, and balancing the budget

Show 2021-12 Segment 1 What Is An Article V Convention Of The States? Find Out Why Millions Are Asking For One
Convention of States president Mark Meckler argues for an Article V Convention of States to be called in order to amend the United States Constitution. His effort has already been approved by 15 states, butting the campaign near the halfway point of what is needed. Meckler explains the process as outlined in the Constitution, the specific areas his group wants to see addressed with constitutional amendments, and answers objections raised by opponents. * image from ConventionOfStates.com

S1E17_Application for a Convention of States Delivered to Congress

S1E17_Application for a Convention of States Delivered to Congress

With the passage of the Federal Limitations Act by the Kentucky state senate on December 13th, 2024; the final brick was laid in the framework for a call of a formal Convention of States.  The enactment of this clause of Article 5 of the U S Constitution is an unprecedented event in our nation’s history.  The application initiates a formal calling of a Convention of States to amend the United States Constitution.  This constitutional process embedded in Article 5 has never been employed by the assembly of States.  The process was a safety valve implanted by the Framers.   They possessed a fear that one day an “out of control” federal government would overstep its bounds of legislative authority, and no longer garner its effort or attention toward the best interest of the common people.  This privilege and procedure was inserted for the States, so should the need arise,  the assembly of States could constitutionally reel in an over zealous federal government.

Syria Withdraw and Middle East Wars

Syria Withdraw and Middle East Wars

Trump's December 2018 Syria full withdraw order and the Middle East wars since George Bush Sr. are discussed with guest Eduardo Vidal. Ed is the co-host of the Concrete Conservatives talk show on WSQF FM Key Biscayne/Miami and online, and is the corporate lawyer for a software firm. We talk about the multitude of excuses used to conduct the war in Syria and touch on a few of the many Middle East wars the US has engaged in over the last two decades. The Constitution and legislation with which Congress unconstitutionally delegated their power to declare war to the President are covered.

Keith rants a bit about the dismal failures of the many US interventions in the Middle East.  The US military is excellent when allowed to win a fight. But the track record of what happens next with installing new governments is dismal.

A potential solution of a Constitution change proposed by the States in an Article V Convention for proposing Amendments is considered. An amendment could eliminate most future U.S. military actions in the Middle East by:
    (1) reminding the government that Congress is the only branch with the expressly delegated power to declare war, and
    (2) explicitly denying the President the power to send armed forces into battle without a Congressional declaration of war.

Such an amendment falls under the Convention of States Action topic of limiting the power and jurisdiction of the Federal government, putting it back to what the founders intended. It also falls into the fiscal responsibility topic.

The US military should not be world's police force, spending trillions of dollars protecting other countries. It should not overthrow other governments because DC politicians prefer some different form of government. Not our job, not what the founders wanted, and it is ludicrously expensive.

New Trade Restrictions Added To NAFTA

New Trade Restrictions Added To NAFTA

The October 2018 “USMCA” update of NAFTA is discussed with several guests.

The new trade restrictions imposed by this so-called “free trade” agreement and the expected increase in automobile prices due to increased component and labor costs are covered. The need to stop the Federal Government from meddling with our economic activities and picking favored industries is clear.

Keith Bessette hosts. Guests are Nancy Suits, Michelle LaFlamme, and Rodney Huckleberry, all with the Convention Of States Project.

    Constitution Day

    Constitution Day

Keith discusses Constitution Day, September 17.

Constitution Day is the anniversary of 9/17/1787, when the federal Constitution was signed by the state delegates in Philadelphia’s Independence Hall. The day marks the completion of defining the expressly delegated roles of the central government, as assigned to it by the States. Following the signing the document was sent to every State’s legislative body for consideration and then ratification, creating our Union in its current form.

2004 Federal Public Law 108-447, Division J, Title 1, Section 111(b) requires the Constitution be taught each September 17 to every student in every school that receives Federal funding.

Keith guest taught the Constitution at a home school collaborative/private school. His experience is reported in this 23 minute podcast.

Kings and Queens of the Supreme Court

Kings and Queens of the Supreme Court
This episode is a review of how the Supreme Court assigned itself so much power and what the people should do to reign it in. Several Court majority opinions that have significantly eroded liberty and unconstitutionally grabbed power are listed. The July 2018 retirement of Justice Kennedy is bounced against several points of view with recorded clips of Rachael Maddow, Dave Smith, Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, Neil Gorsuch, and KrisAnne Hall. The selection of new Justices has become far too important due to their own wide ranging definitions of their own power. Term limits and better restrictions on the court’s authority using constitutional amendments are covered.
