Powerback 186: Get Curious about Discomfort

Nobody wants to be uncomfortable, but what if we look at discomfort through a little bit of a different lens? What if we start thinking, “Hmm, maybe there's information in here.”

When you start to get curious about your discomfort, that shit holds an incredible wealth of information to help guide you to the next part of your path. So, instead of running away from discomfort and instead of hiding away from change, what if we started to lean into it?

On today's Powerback® episode, we are talking about discomfort, how to embrace it, and the types of information that it might be wanting to share with you.

DISCLAIMER! When I talk about discomfort here, I'm not talking about situations, circumstances, people, or surroundings that are inherently unsafe. So, if you're in a place or a situation where you do not feel safe, please take this as your cue to reach out to ask for help, to get guidance.

    • What happens when discomfort shows up
    • Temporary discomfort: the space that breaks the mold
    • The antidote to discomfort is curiosity
    • An example of how I leaned into my discomfort today
    • The 3 types of information discomfort is trying to communicate

Trust the Process and Trust Yourself

Trust the Process and Trust Yourself

Let’s get real…I haven’t been trusting myself. This year I’ve invested a lot in myself, $57,000 to be honest…no small chunk of change for me. I’ve joined masterminds, professional development, programs, live events, you name it. And time and time again…I’m hearing the same information. And I know that I’ve learned things that are priceless and things that I might not see a return on right away. But when I’m hearing things I already know, I have to ask: What am I doing with this? How am I using this knowledge?

The truth is I’ve been consuming and consuming and consuming content to stay busy. It’s procrastination. I’ve been so focused on other people's stories, successes, and results that I just looked up and realized I'm in the wrong car on the wrong road to the wrong place. I’m realizing now that I have been so occupied with these training sessions that I haven't made time and allowed myself to go inward and decide what I really want and get creative with my thinking.

So what am I doing about this? For me, I really need a Content Detox. I’m not listening to podcasts on my walks or in the car, I’m taking a break from the content I’ve been consuming. I’m listening to music and letting my mind wander. It’s amazing when you make the space to think, the questions and ideas that will come to you!

If you’re like me and always wanted to know where your path leads, what’s going to happen, and what your results are going to look like…I urge you to slow down. Go inward. Trust the process. Trust yourself!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening, I will be back in December after the Thanksgiving holiday!

    What’s Inside:

    • What are you benefiting from the content you consume?
    • Are you making time to go inward and pursue your own desires?
    • “I already know this”, How are you using the information you’ve learned?
    • Can a content Detox pave the way to a more creative mind?

    The Art of Listening

    The Art of Listening

Are you listening to yourself? Are you giving yourself your own time, love, and presence to tune into and acknowledge and learn from you?

Many people say they're such good listeners and friends. Though we can often feel resentful when we feel that is not reciprocated. And my question is, are you listening to yourself? Because if you are, then I bet you wouldn't find yourself in situations where you feel subtly resentful of your life or the people around you. Your body and your soul are always trying to speak to you and let you in on more of yourself. You are wise. You have everything you need within you and you have the answers to that which you are seeking.

When you gift yourself with the ability to stop and listen to you, you can bring in profound insights and clarity on the different areas of your life. Maybe you're over extending yourself in work, and your body wants you to hone in and give yourself more time to be with you. Maybe you just need some more rest! Maybe it's time to start practicing your sacred no, and trying that on for once!

What are you telling you? And what are you going to do with that information?

Giving someone our time and presence is one of the greatest gifts we can ever offer. And that is felt and remembered, wether it is acknowledged or not. Continue being a light in the world by being yourself, and offering your loving presence. It's quite simple. I promise you, you will not only learn a lot about yourself and who you are relating with, but you will feel grateful for the gift you extend by just being present with and open to another. It goes a long way.

    Much love #freetobe tribe!

    Episode 10: Reflecting on Values-Alignment

    Episode 10: Reflecting on Values-Alignment
What is the Neuro Change Method? Why do things change in our brain? Mindsets, belief, subconscious and more are all woven into the framework of neuroplasticity. It helps us understand how our brain changes. Brand and culture specialist. Science behind what you need to do and how to get your brain to work together with itself. What are the challenges people are facing during Covid? People really reflected on what values they really believed in and if they still held true for themselves. People know fairly fast what matters and what doesn’t and are able to cut through the “crap” much more quickly. Businesses realize they are not who they used to be. Working from Home vs Office? People are wanting to work from home more. It’s a hard change to navigate to come back to the office. Businesses are wondering how to create a connection between remote workers. People will get their jobs done when you trust them to do it. See the Business as a person? Lindsay believes in seeing the business as a person too. It comes from the definition of a corporation. In marketing and branding, if a company’s brand is off, then the mental wellness is also off. Seeing it as a person helps with brand because you realize there is a reputation and relationship it has with other companies, other people. A lot of what people say about companies isn’t always grounded in reality. Outcoming generations can feel that their identity is tied to the business, whereas incoming generations feel that they are the ones who determine the business identity separately from their personal identity. What parts of business to see as a person? First and foremost, ask the people. Ask them how they feel, and what they think. Sit down with each member of the team and ask them what they think: those conversations will tell you where to improve. Remember that you hire people to be better than you are at doing their job. Trust your people. How to get trust back? Fall on your sword. Own up. Hold yourself accountable. A leader owns up to his mistakes. Is my ego getting in the way of us achieving something? How to bring about change when people aren’t in alignmnet? This is very situational based. Always bring in an HR professional or a lawyer. First ask yourself if you, the leader, are doing the same things that you want your employees to do. Also ask them how they understand what the values are that they need to follow. If you’ve given them the opportunity then you need to Favorite business book: Necessary Endings (Dr. Henry Cloud), Traction (Gino Wickman). Favorite movie: the first Jurassic Park Parting thoughts: Take some time to stop and reflect on whether our daily actions reflect our values. If they do, “cheers!” But if we notice our actions are not aligned with our values, let’s get curious and dig in on how do we get there and what our values actually are. Special Guest: Lindsay Harle-Kadatz.

Ollie Martin spent 10 years as a constable with the Sussex police force operating in high risk covert surveillance and intelligence roles. After suffering burnout, Ollie resigned from the force and has since developed a range of programmes and peer support groups to help police officers and men from all walks of life 'get curious' about their own mental health and start talking.
