How To Unlock Your Private Emotions To Create Inspiration? With Acting Coach Jim O'Connor

How To Unlock Your Private Emotions To Create Inspiration? With Acting Coach Jim O'Connor

As most of you know, Tiffany is embarking on a journey to be an actor and in this episode we have invited her acting coach Jim  to get a better understanding of what goes behind the curtains and we get a preview to the way Jim teaches the art of being an actor!

Jim begins by sharing his childhood enjoying the 70’s fashion and music, and being the only theater kid in the family. He reveals how he fell in love with theatre, where it provided him with skills and a family of misfits who he could relate to. Whereas there was no room for him to express this side to himself at home. The discussion then centers around acting, where Jim describes the technicalities, history, and examples of what each of the three styles contain; the Method Acting, Meisner Method, and the Strasberg Method. According to Jim, the key rule in acting is being truthful as an actor.

Finally, we leave the conversation with a message from Jim  to the aspiring actors out there. Don’t let feelings of embarrassment or shame restrict you from your desire to be an actor. Life comes first, and your safety and security are important so find teachers and spaces that you feel comfortable with because acting can be a personal experience. Take your time to observe what supports you. And just go for it, your talent is forever!

Jim O’Connor received his bachelor of fine arts degree in acting from the University of Rhode Island, USA, where he studied the Meisner method. After working in regional theater under the guidance of Tony award winning Director, Adrian Hall, Jim relocated to New York City where his career shifted to daytime soap operas, episodic television and Emmy award winning national network commercials. Thereafter, Jim explored the growing trend as a television host with his own shows on the USA network amongst others. Throughout his pursuits, Jim steadily trained with Gary Swanson, a first generation acting pupil of Lee Strasberg and lifetime member of The Actor’s Studio. Jim enjoys teaching the knowledge he has been fortunate enough to obtain and now looks forward to sharing the same with Tokyo performing artists.
