    Originally released as the B side of Columbia 45467. The group was pretty audacious to cover a tune that already had a definitive version, in this case by the Spencer Davis Group (featuring writer Steve Winwood). However, you must recall that Chicago was a damn good, multi-talented band back in 1971, full of creativity and genuine rock sensibilities. So they managed to make yet another definitive version. Most of the track is a celebration of the group's drummer and rhythm section, leading slowly back to guitarist Terry Kath's psych-rock chording. This is a beautiful copy of the red-label Columbia Hall of Fame reissue, in its Hall of Fame factory sleeve. It has pristine Mint audio.

    Here's a very rare Northern Soul record which passed through John Manship's hands earlier this year. I'm going to quote from Manship because he has a lot of interesting things to say about the record.

If this record wasn't so insanely unavailable over the last 50 years , it would have been a Wigan Casino MONSTER !!! A 1000 times rarer than the M.V.P.'s, a 45 of infinite rarity. Triumphant horns explode the intro into orbit, ringing vibes decorate its path to a lush vocal, elevated by an avalanche strings. Strap yourself in for a journey into real-deal Northern Soul from the desk of the "Wizard" Stan Vincent, one of the main men supplying at Buddah records with standout songwriting ! Stan "The Wizard" who crafted the timeless soul classic Five Stairsteps - "Oooh Child" and Ronnie Dyson's "When You Get Right Down to It" also many "Vincent" creations become Northern Soul plays. Paul Wagnar's "The World I Knew " being quite easily the rarest of all his work, as the USA release never happened and promotion seemingly channeled into Europe only.     The flip is another uptempo number well worth seeking out. Note: This copy looks almost new, with Mint labels and shiny wax that has a few light scuffs. The grooves preserve pristine Mint sound... Check out the mp3 "snippet" of it.

    This is a beautiful copy of one of my all-time favorite recordings. I'm putting an mp3 "snippet" in our online jukebox, because I just don't hear it often enough. By the way, this was Nelson's first single for Columbia, and it was also his first Country chart-topper. It's also one of those masterpieces of songwriting economy I always rave about that clocks in at less than 2:30 (in this case, 2:17). Note: This copy comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. The audio has some intermittent pops that lower the audio grade to EX+, though many wouldn't be this harsh about it.

    Originally released on White Whale 227. There aren't too many perfect pop confections that make me smile like this one! Normally, I don't put reissues in the Classic 45s jukebox, but in this case, originals are hard to come by... and I really want to be able to hear it in the jukebox! This early Turtles single isn't as well known as some of their later ones, but after you hear the snippet, I'm sure you'll agree it's one of their very best. This is a new copy of the out-of-print Collectables reissue.

    Paul Simon was one of the first non-Reggae artists to flirt with the reggae sound, and this is a damned good experiment, if you ask me! I'm always shocked to hear the incredibly powerful Stereo mix that they pressed these 7-inch releases with: Loud is simply not sufficient to describe the enormity of what's in these little grooves. The mp3 snippet I've provided doesn't do it justice, but hopefully you'll get the idea. :-) Collector nerd alert: This is the original release on the red/orange Columbia label. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Columbia Records factory sleeve. It has very nearly Mint labels, and the audio sounds pristine Mint!

    Listening to this, it's easy to see how Summer became the queen of disco in the late 1970s, helped enormously by great material and by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte's distinctive techno arrangements. By the way, this is the relatively rare first pressing of Casablanca 884, which labels "I Feel Love" as the B side. And it's true! Originally, the record company plugged "Can't We Just..." as the A side, and it did chart for a few weeks on the Black/RnB Singles chart. Soon, however, station programmers began plugging "I Feel Love," and it became one of Summer's earliest Top 10 hits. Casablanca shortly re-pressed the single showing "Side A" for "I Feel Love." The A side ("Can't We...") is edited from a 4:25 album track. Note: This beautiful 45 record has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl (styrene), Audio).

    What a great record! If you've forgotten why Dave Marsh might put "Needles and Pins" by the Searchers at #239 in his list of the 1,001 greatest 45s of Rock & Soul, have a listen to the brief snippet I'm adding to our "jukebox!" Those opening guitar chords sound like something Roger McGuinn will concoct for a Byrds song in 1965, evoking Chuck Berry's description of how Johnny B. Goode could "play a guitar just like ringing a bell." Note: This copy comes in a vintage Kapp Records factory sleeve. It looks very close to Mint (Labels, Vinyl) and has gorgeous, pristine Mint soound.
