Passing the Baton - Elijah: Part 5 - Woodside Bible Church Troy

Passing the Baton - Elijah: Part 5 - Woodside Bible Church Troy

Our world functions from our labor. We work each day to provide for our families. We encourage hard work and to do a job well done. We put a lot of emphasis on our career and how it will carry us. In the same way, we work hard at our job, we have a similar call as followers of Christ; to carry out God's mission He has for His followers. God calls us to spread His gospel and love to all the nations. He desires more people to come to know Him and to follow Him. God wants us to press into this call with fervor and obedience. As we continue in our series, Elijah, we will see Elijah’s obedience to God's whisper. After a time of isolation, as we saw last week, God speaks to Elijah and calls Him to seek out Elisha who would be a prophet in Elijah’s place. Through Elijah’s following of God's instruction, we learn that God's call can be trusted, His call demands commitment, and God's assignments involve development. Listen to the latest sermon of the series, Passing the Baton, where we will see how God faithfully calls people into His mission!

Even the air we breathe can be toxic to us, disrupting our natural hormone balance and sending our health into a nosedive. Men, women and youth are dealing with symptoms like anxiety, depression, mood swings and lack of sleep among other things that could relate to unbalanced hormones.  God gave us our bodies as temples to steward, so how can we care for them?

    Episode Highlights

    [03:37] Jackie’s Medical Journey

    • Jackie does a lot of work with hormones, and they work with people of all ages. However, many people — even children — are experiencing hormone disruptions today.

[03:37] Jackie: "It's really our practices, focusing on how the body was designed by God, and how can we work with it to really help that person heal through all stages of life."

    • Jackie tries to help people return to what she believes is the body's "natural" state. She thinks that's what God intends for the human body.
    • Her journey began when she went to Church, and the message was about procrastination. Jackie had been delaying trying to put her business together.
    • According to Jackie, God placed her where she was. Her work isn’t a job.

[13:47] Breaking the Silence Around Menopause

    • The guest, Jackie, tackles the stigma around menopause and how discussing it can help many women.
    • According to Jackie, God works through our weaknesses, including our trials through menopause.
    • Jackie encourages women to speak openly about menopause and seek help when needed.

[27:07] The Environmental Impact on Natural Hormone Balance

    • Focusing on nourishing the body and taking care of one's health from an early age is essential.
    • Many commercial products aren't good for you — they change the makeup of your body, especially your hormones.
    • It's best to take early action against hormonal changes.
    • Jackie criticizes the use of anxiety medications, highlighting that they temporarily alleviate symptoms, not heal.

    [38:25] Caution Against Synthetic Hormones

    • Jackie stresses the importance of finding a reliable healthcare provider for hormone tests.
    • According to Jackie, synthetic hormones only trick your body into thinking it has the correct hormone levels.
    • Jackie thinks there are alternative ways to handle hormonal disruptions and return to your natural hormone balance.
    • Sleep is a time to heal when the body can really rest and regenerate. Hormonal imbalances can disrupt our sleeping patterns.

[49:25] Reagan: “Once you realize, like, you know, my hormone levels are all over the place. I am going through perimenopause or menopause, then you have more peace about it.”

    • All hormones work as messengers in the human body. Bioidentical hormones are almost exactly the same as natural ones, but synthetics aren’t quite the same.

[50:34] Finding Your Place Through God

    • You might find your God-assigned place at any point in life. Some people find it in childhood. Jackie found it much later.
    • Jackie believes God used Sunday church sessions to soften her heart.
    • She went through multiple medical practices before finding the right place for her.

Do You Remember? Our Altars of Faith - part 1

Do You Remember? Our Altars of Faith - part 1

Abram/Abraham was the father of faith.  He remains our model of how to walk in faith and obedience to the God we declare to love.  He wasn't perfect but that didn't bother God because God knew him.  God knows you and I too.  The decision before us daily is whether we walk by faith or if we walk by sight.  As we will see in this episode, Abram had the same challenges we do, but he also gives us a roadmap of how to walk by faith even when flawed.  What is beautiful about his walk is with every encounter he had with God, he commemorated it by building an altar.  In this series, we are going to discuss those altars and what they represented both in Abram's life and what they represent in our lives.  You ready for this?  Let's go get it...

Ezra Part 2: Rallying To The Call (Ezra 2:1-70)

Ezra Part 2: Rallying To The Call (Ezra 2:1-70)

We as the people of God are a culturally diverse people joined together in common purpose despite our differences. In Ezra 2 many peoples are gathering together from different families, backgrounds, towns of origin, roles, social status, and amounts of wealth. No matter who we are and what our roles may be, our lineage is secure in in Jesus. From that position of security we are enabled to freely give what has been entrusted to us, wholeheartedly and sacrificially, prioritizing our lives together according to His word.

S4 | Ep. 3 // Bringing the Gospel to the Unreached (ft. Brandon of Activate Global)

S4 | Ep. 3 // Bringing the Gospel to the Unreached (ft. Brandon of Activate Global)

Many of us are blessed to have grown up in places where there is an active ministry and the gospel can be preached openly. However, there are areas all over the world where people have never even heard of His word. God is calling His children to minister in these places, but unfortunately, there is an overwhelming lack of focus among Christian ministries.

Unreached nations are not getting prioritized as they should be. It’s likely because church planters and other missionaries do not see enough opportunities to reach those places. Nonetheless, we should remember that it is God who opens doors of opportunities, and all we need to do is to respond in faith to His call.

In this episode of the Revelations Podcast, Brandon of Activate Global talks about the work God is doing through their ministry to unreached people groups. He talks about the joy of seeing people who have never heard of Christ now surrender their lives to Him. Brandon also shares the miracles he’s seen God perform.

Tune in now to learn more about the ministry of the gospel in unreached areas of the world.

*For the safety and security of this ministry we have ommitted names and country names to his podcast.

Here are three reasons why you should listen to this episode:

    1. Understand that there are still over 3 billion people groups unreached by the gospel.
    2. Learn about existing ministry efforts in underdeveloped nations.
    3. Discover how God does miraculous works in different parts of the world.

    Episode Highlights

[05:09] God’s Mission and Calling for Brandon

    • Brandon and his wife, Jess, met in South Asia on a mission trip, and they moved back there after getting married.
    • During a six-week trip, Brandon witnessed people in South Asia come to faith and have their lives transformed by the gospel. He realized how much God can do in a lifetime.
    • God moved Jess to share the comfort and love she received with people who suffer from physical and spiritual poverty.
    • Now, God has grown their mission to 13 different nations through a ministry called Activate Global.

    [13:18] How Brandon Met Jesus

    • When Brandon was in high school, his brother got involved in drinking and drugs, leading him to spend time in prison. His brother realized he needed to surrender to Christ to receive forgiveness.
    • Watching his brother’s life change was a turning point for Brandon. It made him realize God’s power.
    • In college, he decided to pursue Jesus and started reading the Bible.

    [18:06] Activate Global

    • There are many ministries involved in discipleship training and church planting, but a lot of them fail to plan long-term.
    • Most missionaries in developing countries struggle with sustaining their ministries.
    • Activate Global’s mission is to partner with these ministries and provide them with sustainable long-term solutions.
    • Activate Global can help them start a business that will support their long-term spiritual endeavors.

    [24:32] A Witness to God’s Miracles

    • One brother shared a testimony about healing. He had a rare skin disease and everyone thought he would die.
    • His father thought of asking a Christian to pray for him. They called one of Brandon’s partners for prayer, and he was healed in 15 days.
    • Brandon saw Jesus show up in dreams and visions among Muslim communities. He was able to see Him heal demon-possessed people with Hindu backgrounds.
    • God shows miracles to people who have faith and those who do not give up in prayer.

Brandon [31:53]: “The power of prayer is so key to everything that we do in our ministry.”

[33:25] How God Sustains Their Marriage

    • They love doing things together. Brandon and Jess share the passion to go to communities that have not heard the gospel before.
    • God continues to sustain their marriage even when Brandon and Jess are apart. They focus on the things that matter and believe that putting themselves at risk for the sake of Jesus is worth it.

Brandon [35:32]: “We talk so much about the Second Coming when so much of the world hasn’t heard about His first.”

    • Some of the most joyful people you’ll ever meet are those who’ve given up so much to follow Jesus.

    [41:42] Focusing on the Unreached

    • According to Activate Global’s website, nearly 3.15 billion people or around 7000 people groups still live without access to the gospel.
    • There’s a great lack of focus among missionaries. About 97% of them, and over 99% of financial support, go to places that already have access to God’s word.
    • Revelation 5:9: God gives the hope and promise that there will be people from every tribe, every tongue, and every nation worshipping Him in heaven.

[47:04] What Brandon’s Ministry Looks Like in the Next Years

    • Activate Global has helped start 315 small businesses across 13 different countries. He hopes to see 1000 businesses scattered among 500 unique people groups.
    • Brandon is excited to see God open doors in new places where local missionaries have access to sustainable support solutions.
    • He is also looking forward to God raising national leaders in the 13 countries where they are active.
    • The word of God will no longer be foreign to the natives once local missionaries share the gospel in their communities.

[50:02] Why Choose to Minister in More Difficult Nations?

    • You cannot turn away from what God calls you to do and where God calls you to go.
    • Jesus is the only one who can truly make a difference in a person’s life and a community’s destiny. If no one brings Jesus to less fortunate places, then they will not be given a chance at all.

Brandon [57:08]: “All of us have the potential to be a part of what God is doing, and maybe that doesn’t lead you into another part of the world. But maybe it does.”

    About Brandon

Brandon is the co-founder of Elevate Global and Activate Global, a ministry focused on sending missionaries to unreached nations and partnering with other sending organizations to provide church planters with sustainable long-term solutions that will keep them in the mission field.
