40: A vocation discernment retreat can offer the way forward

Have you ever asked yourself, "What does God want me to do with my life?" The vocations office of the Diocese of Paterson is hosting a discernment retreat during the first weekend of March to help young men get a step closer to answering that question.

For this episode, a young priest and a seminarian join Bishop Kevin Sweeney and Jai Agnish to discuss the discernment process and the value of spiritual retreats.

John Peter Zappe is in his final year of minor seminary undergraduate studies at The College Seminary of the Immaculate Conception at St. Andrew's Hall. Father Frank Lennie was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Paterson in May 2021 by Bishop Kevin. The two young men share their experiences of answering their vocational calling and invite other young men to consider attending the retreat.

Son Rise Morning Show 11/08/2023: Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C. on Vocation Awareness Week

In this segment from the Son Rise Morning Show on Sacred Heart Radio, Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C. discusses vocations awareness week, focusing on the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life. We are called to pray for vocations, but also to encourage those who are considering a vocation.

National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated November 5-11, 2023, is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.  NVAW began in 1976 when the U. S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for NVAW.  In 1997, this celebration was moved to coincide with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which falls on January 13 in 2013.  Beginning in 2014, NVAW was moved to the first full week of November.

From April 2023 to April 2024 the Irish church is marking a year of prayer for vocations to the diocesan priesthood with the theme/tag line "Take the Risk for Christ". As part of that effort to encourage men to consider a vocation to the diocesan priesthood here on C&SI we will be hosting a series of interviews with priests over the next few months who will be sharing their vocation story and what it means to them to be a priest in Ireland today.

On this weeks podcast we have a chat with Fr Derek Leonard to share his vocation journey which has brought him to Peru and back again to the banks of the Shannon. You can listen to that conversation in part 2 of this weeks full podcast.

Our regular weekly items of course are on this week as well - liturgical odds and ends including our saints for the week and of course a shared reflection on this weeks Sunday gospel (Matthew 21:33-43) which is the parable of the wineyard.
