We're taking you on a thrilling journey through Paul's letters to the Romans, retracing his travels through Macedonia and Greece. Feel his anticipation as he yearns to visit Rome while still harnessing the power of the Gospel. We'll tackle the controversial topic of God's wrath and its consequences on those who reject Him, before reminding everyone of a central truth: God doesn't play favorites and all will be judged by their deeds. Then, we'll cap the episode off with a deep dive into faith and righteousness, especially concerning Jews and Gentiles, sparking an enlightening conversation about God's unwavering faithfulness. So, buckle up for an episode jam-packed with enlightening discussions, profound realizations, and a fresh perspective on faith and righteousness.

Romans 1 starts by emphasizing the power of the Gospel as the revelation of God's righteousness and the salvation for all who believe. Paul addresses the sinful nature of humanity, describing how people rejected God, leading to idolatry, immorality, and various vices. He highlights God's righteous judgment against these behaviors and how individuals exchanged the truth of God for lies, resulting in moral degradation. Paul condemns both the Gentiles and Jews for their sinful ways, highlighting the universality of sin and the need for redemption through faith in Christ.

Romans 2 stresses the accountability of all individuals before God, emphasizing that both Jews and Gentiles will face judgment based on their deeds. Paul addresses hypocrisy, emphasizing that outward rituals or knowledge of the Law without obedience hold no value if one fails to live according to God's standards. He emphasizes the importance of true circumcision of the heart rather than outward symbols. Paul underlines that it's the doers of the Law, not merely hearers, who will be justified before God.

Romans 3 continues by highlighting that all, both Jews and Gentiles, are under sin and fall short of God's glory. Paul reaffirms that no one is righteous on their own, and the Law serves to reveal sin rather than provide justification. He emphasizes the righteousness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, available to all who believe, as the way to salvation. Paul concludes that God's righteousness

Numbers 14-15, Psalm 90 | The Importance of Community and Obedience to God's Commands

Numbers 14-15, Psalm 90 | The Importance of Community and Obedience to God's Commands

The book of Numbers 14-15 tells the story of the Israelites' rebellion against God's plan to take them into the Promised Land. Despite witnessing God's miraculous acts and hearing his promises, the Israelites lacked faith and instead grumbled and complained, even suggesting that they return to slavery in Egypt.

God became angry with their lack of trust and threatened to punish them by withholding the Promised Land from them. However, Moses interceded on their behalf, reminding God of his mercy and faithfulness to his people.

In response, God forgave the Israelites but still punished them by making them wander in the wilderness for forty years until the rebellious generation had died off. He also commanded them to make offerings and sacrifices to atone for their sins.

Psalm 90, written by Moses, reflects on the brevity of human life and the everlasting nature of God. Moses acknowledges God's power and justice, but also his mercy and compassion. He prays for wisdom to live a life pleasing to God and for God to show his favor to his people.

The psalm echoes the themes of Numbers 14-15, as both emphasize the importance of trusting in God's faithfulness and seeking forgiveness for sins. Both also highlight the consequences of disobedience and the need for repentance and atonement.

The story of the man who was stoned for breaking the Sabbath is found in Numbers 15:32-36. The man was caught gathering wood on the Sabbath, which was a violation of God's commandment to keep the Sabbath holy. The people brought him to Moses and Aaron, who consulted with God on what to do. God commanded that the man should be stoned to death as punishment for his disobedience.

This story highlights the importance of obedience to God's commands, particularly the Sabbath, which was a sacred day of rest and worship. The severity of the punishment underscores the seriousness of the offense and the importance of upholding the community's values and laws.

Moreover, this story also emphasizes the importance of the community over the individual. The man's disobedience not only violated God's commandment, but it also threatened the community's adherence to the law. Therefore, the community had a responsibility to uphold the law and ensure that everyone abided by it. The punishment was not just for the man's sake, but also for the sake of the community's spiritual well-being.

    The Great Exchange - Audio

    The Great Exchange - Audio
In Mark 15, in the middle of perhaps the most well-known of Bible stories, the trial and crucifixion of our Lord and Savior, and we read today a very physical representation of the Gospel and what it is. We see an exchange of sorts take place, and it’s a physical representation of the spiritual reality for all our lives. If we understand this exchange in all of its ironies, all if its injustice, all of its upside-down, inside out reality, we ought to understand the Gospel. And the more anyone understands the Gospel, the more compelling, absorbing, sweet and savoring it should become.

    I Am the Vine

    I Am the Vine
In our continuing series of the "I am the..." statements Jesus made in John today we consider Jesus' self pronouncement of being the true vine. Consider with us Jesus' command to remain in him and what that implies, the word of grace behind the command, and the response to live in the tension between obedience to the command and grace.

Devotions S3 | Moments featuring David Ewagata

Rev. David Ewagata joins us again today to take us through Psalm 30. How do we process various moments in our life? Moments where death seems close? Moments where we are at the end of our rope? Moments where we have been scorned? Moments where God’s favor is upon us? Moments when we feel God disapproves of us? In Psalm 30 David reflects on all these moments in his life, moments he cried to God and he felt God heard him, and the moments he felt God did not answer him. And as he does this, he stumbles upon a great purpose for living.

The Goodness and Severity of God - Eugene Higgins

The Goodness and Severity of God - Eugene Higgins

All of us who know the God of the Bible in any measure have come to one simple conclusion – God is good! Not only do we read this over and over again in the Bible both as fact as well as from numerous scriptural examples, we also know it from our own experience. Bur the Bible also speaks of the ‘severity’ of God – the result of His unbending holiness in dealing with sin. Which will you experience? We hope that you will trust in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation and receive God’s eternal blessing.

Relentless Week 4 - Obadiah: Relentless Humility - Audio
What happens when our enemies suffer? What rises up within our hearts? In the fourth week of our study through the Minor Prophets, Pastor Scott Savage leads us through the book of Obadiah. The shortest book in the Minor Prophets is profoundly relevant to us today, showing us that there is a strong connection between the state of our heart towards God and the way we treat the people we struggle to love the most.
