Paul's description of the end of the age in 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 has confused many readers. The apostle wrote, “Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power” (verse 24). He later added, “And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all" (verse 28). Taken at face value, Paul seems to imply not only a distinction between the Father and the Son, but also a subordinate role for the Son.

Oneness Pentecostals believe Jesus was God “manifest in the flesh” (1 Timothy 3:16.) But the New Testament repeatedly refers to Jesus as the “Son of God.” What does this title mean? Does it indicate Jesus was somehow different from God, or less than God? Is Jesus God, or is He God’s Son?

One way God revealed Himself in the Old Testament and dealt with humans on their level was through the use of theophanies, a visible but usually temporary manifestation of the Almighty. Today’s conversation concerns matters of matter and spirit. By taking a close look at this very seemingly basic distinction, we can gain a lot of very practical information. What do we actually know about the material world? Many Eastern spiritual traditions, as well as many of the ancient thinkers, do not make a hard distinction between physical matter and spiritual substance. Some might say they are one and the same.
