Paul’s epistles typically open with a greeting that refers to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. For example, in Romans 1:7 Paul wrote, “Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Trinitarians argue that the wording of these greetings is evidence of a distinction between members of the Godhead. How do Oneness Pentecostals respond to this assertion?

Dr. David K. Bernard addresses this question by examining these passages from the perspective of Paul's first-century readers. His response makes it clear that there is no distinction of persons between the God of the Old Testament and Jesus Christ.

Several New Testament passages describe Jesus as sitting or standing at God’s right hand. One of the most frequently referenced is Acts 7:55, where Stephen looks into heaven as he is being martyred and sees “the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.” Taken at face value, this and similar verses seem to indicate a distinction between Jesus and God. How can Jesus, the Son of God, and God the Father be one and the same if Stephen really saw Jesus standing at God’s right hand?

Dr. David K. Bernard answers this question by reviewing the Bible's statements about the nature of God and the significance of the right hand in Scripture.

A basic understanding and acceptance of the doctrine of the Holy trinity is necessary to glorify God.

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 13-14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity teaches us that:

1. There is one God.

• 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,; 
• Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!

2. There are three persons in God’s divine nature.  

• Luke 3:22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
• Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
• Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;  one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 
• 1 Peter 1:2 elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

3. Each person in the trinity is fully God. 

• Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
• Colossians 2:9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
• Acts 5:3-4 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?  While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”

Jesus Christ had a twofold identity - He was both God and man. Most questions about the Godhead can be resolved if we properly understand this reality. In this episode, Dr. David K. Bernard examines what the Scriptures say about the dual identity of Jesus.

There are three in the Godhead. Holy Spirit is an equal person in that Tri-unity. He dwells in us and never leaves us. That is amazing! We learn that listening to Holy Spirit is a maturing process that we walk out here in creation.
