    #2 Spaß an der Oper

    Warum gibt es überhaupt Opern? Die erste Oper, die man als richtige Oper bezeichnen kann, war L`Orfeo von Claudio Monteverdi. Das ist circa 415 Jahre her, und sie war ein Geburtstagsgeschenk an den Fürsten Gonzaga, einer der Fürsten in Italien, erzählt der Musik- und Theaterwissenschafter Edwin Baumgartner im Gespräch mit Host Petra Tempfer.

    Diese Opern, die damals geschrieben wurden, waren aber ganz anders als das, was wir heute darunter verstehen. Sie dienten der Volksbelustigung, die Rock- und Popmusik der damaligen Zeit war die Oper. Die Leute, ob Adel, ob Volk, ob Analphabeten, ob Schreibkundige, ob Philosophieprofessoren, ganz egal: Jeder ist in die Oper gegangen. Die Oper war der Schlager der frühen Jahrhunderte. Heute ist das nicht mehr so. Im 19. Jahrhundert hat sich das gedreht, und die Oper ist elitär geworden.

    Dennoch gibt es die Möglichkeit, auf die Suche zu gehen, ob einem eine Oper gefallen würde - man geht auf YouTube. Dort gibt es Opern in Ausschnitten, massenhaft Opern in ganzen Aufnahmen mit Bild, ohne Bild, mit Video, ohne Video, historische Aufnahmen, zeitgenössische Aufnahmen. Man kann hören, was man will. Es muss auch nicht immer nur um Liebesdramen, Mord und Totschlag gehen, es gibt auch komische Opern wie die französischen. Und dann kann man vielleicht sogar drei, vier billige Vorstellungen besuchen, und mit der Zeit wird man drauf kommen, was einem gefällt und was nicht. Es ist ein Ausprobieren. Und vielleicht macht Oper dann sogar Spaß.
