    nothing,nowhere.

    nothing,nowhere.

When following up 2017’s “Reaper,” Joe Mulherin aimed to explore his more minimal side. From production choices, to a speedy creative process (it was written and recorded in two weeks), to even the track titles, 2018’s “ruiner” is all about the stripping away of excess. Discover the journey behind this new record, along with how Mulherin initially met producing partner Jay Vee over Soundcloud, why the definition of nothing, nowhere. is always changing, and how music acts as the artist’s “personal form of therapy.”

Interviews: Joe Mulherin (nothing, nowhere.), Johnny Minardi (Fueled by Ramen, Senior Director A&R), Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy), and Jay Vee (Co-Producer).

It’s not just Jordan Benjamin’s musical ambitions that set him apart in his role as alter ego and Fueled by Ramen artist, grandson. His thrilling genre bend — one described as being “riff-based,” but also playing in “subgenres of electronic production” — is accompanied by a raw intelligence and a fearless social consciousness. Or in his words, he both has “no intention of contributing to an existing space musically,” while also striving to know he “stood for something in this kind of time.”

With that balance in mind, listen in as he discusses his 2018 EP, details his creative partnership with producer Kevin Hissink (aka Boonn), and explains his responsibility in fostering those important political and cultural conversations.

Interviews: Jordan Benjamin (grandson), Mollie Lehman (Atlantic Records, Senior Director A&R), Johnny Minardi (Fueled by Ramen, Senior Director A&R), Kevin Hissink (producer).

    Wallows

    Wallows

For a band primed to be one of the next great pillars of rock music, you’d expect a more rollicking origin story. “We became friends through our moms. Sounds funny, but they met online.”

But that’s the story of 3-piece LA alt-rock outfit Wallows, a charming one that pairs well with the ambition and energy of 2018 release, “Spring EP.” Hear this tale in full, along with talk on specific EP tracks, details about working with producer John Congleton, and the story of playing basketball where Prince once shot around.

Interviews: Cole Preston, Braeden Lemasters, Dylan Minnette, Austin Rice (Atlantic Records A&R), Caiti Green (Marketing Director, Atlantic Records), and John Congleton (Producer).

Rockcast 91 - The Melding of Genres with Grandson

Rockcast 91 - The Melding of Genres with Grandson
The artist Grandson jumped on the scene earlier this year when he singed a record deal with the label Fueled By Raman, which is part of the same record group owned by Atlantic, Roadrunner and Elektra. To this point he has only released a few one off songs and an E.P. called 'A Modern Tragedy Vol. 1' and has played a handful of rock festivals in the U.S. plus is currently on the road with the Alternative band Nothing but Thieves. Grandson though is turning heads everywhere he goes. He blends a lot of different styles together within his music and now that legendary guitarist Tom Morello has remixed his hit single "Blood // Water" things are on the up for the young Grandson. Kaytie and I have both been blown away by his live show and his songs. Now then, let's meet Grandson.

    Dashboard Confessional

    Dashboard Confessional

"I did. I found it. There is necessity inside me to write Dashboard songs."

Ending a nine-year gap between full length albums, Chris Carrabba's journey to 2018's "Crooked Shadows" was an eventful one, to say the least. From lost music, to expanding and revitalizing live shows, to landing on a dream label, each critical moment is captured here, told by one of rock music's great storytellers. Other highlights include the backstory of "We Fight" and how his recent crop of cover songs came together.

Interviews: Chris Carrabba, Mike Easterlin (Fueled By Ramen, President), and Colin Brittain (Producer, Mixer).

Grandson Talks About Working With Mike Shinoda

Grandson Talks About Working With Mike Shinoda
Invoking change is the overall purpose of Grandson. I knew artist in the rock world who spent the majority of his childhood in Toronto, Canada. Deciding to drop out of college and move to L.A. to pursue his music career. A unique perspective to our current state as a country. Grandson touches on the differences between Canada and the U.S. Lunchbox and Promo Brady had a chance to catch up with him last week when we was in town for a show at the Vanguard in the Brady Arts District. What has it been like traveling through the red states with a liberal leaning message? Grandson talks about his experiences. What is the meaning behind his song “Blood/Water”? The lyrics have weight and depth to them. What is he trying to convey? You’ll hear his answer to that question in the conversation ahead. Mike Shinoda has been a major influence on Grandson’s career. The two connected in L.A. and recorded a song together. Mike has served as a bit of a mentor to the young artist. This episode of the DOMKcast is unique in a sense that this is one of the rare times the guys took our show on the road. Walking the outskirts of the Brady Arts District and ending up in Chimara. Hear the full conversation with Grandson on episode 67 of the DOMKcast. #DOMKRocks
