It's the holiday season and what better time than now to talk about the Christmas classic movie, Gremlins!

Billy is your average kid, living in an average town getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year. But when his dad brings home an early Christmas present, Billy finds himself with an adorable new pet Mogwai that he names Gizmo. Now along with Gizmo comes 3 rules: 1) Never expose it to sunlight 2) Never get it wet and 3) Never, ever feed it after midnight. Things take a dark turn when Billy accidentally breaks 2 of the rules and the town soon finds itself overrun by nightmarish creatures that begin to terrorize and takeover on Christmas eve.

    The Matrix Resurrections

Joel and Chris dive into The Matrix Resurrections and lose themselves (and the core concept of the podcast) in a maze of tangents before uncovering the secret of the hallowed Warner Brothers creator-controlled sequel. Along the way they also find parallels between The Matrix Resurrections and Gremlins 2, contemplate the deeper meaning the creators of Space Jam 2 were aiming for and continue to question the existence of their own podcast.

GREMLINS 2 - WTF Happened to this Horror Movie

What happens when a studio has a massive blockbuster and is so desperate for a sequel that they give the director a massive budget and complete creative control free from studio interference? Sometimes, if you're lucky, you get a movie like Joe Dante's GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH, which, despite being a box office flop when it came out thirty years ago, is now regarded as a cult classic, even if many fans don't consider it quite in the same league as the original. So join us as we try to figure WTF Happened to GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH!

Episode 15 Holiday Special - Gremlins

Episode 15 Holiday Special - Gremlins

In the 1980’s, the combination of horror and comedy was becoming more and more popular. Chris Columbus, who would go onto become a famed director in his own right, wrote a spec script after he was inspired by the sound of mice scurrying across his apartment but the story was really just an effort to get more attention on his work.

That was until Steven Spielberg took notice of his script with interest of transforming this story into a feature film after calling it “one of the most original things” that he’d seen in years. Director Joe Dante was brought on board after he found success with his werewolf movie “The Howling” and he teamed up with Spielberg and Columbus to unleash “Gremlins” to audiences in the summer of 1984.

In the holiday edition of “Rewind of the Living Dead,” we’re going to stay away from bright lights, avoid water and not eat anything after midnight as we talk about the Christmas classic horror-comedy “Gremlins”…
