    Gremlins

    Gremlins
Holiday season continues with the 1984 comedy-horror classic, Gremlins! Ben, Cory, Noah, and Robbie hop in their Kentucky Harvesters, take a ride on faulty stair lift, and break all three simple rules for Mogwai care while discussing Joe Dante's tonal mashup. Directed by Joe Dante, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, and written by Chris Columbus. Starring Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, with Howie Mandel providing the voice of Gizmo.

    Gremlins

    Gremlins

Want to experience the wild ride of the 80s classic, Gremlins, all over again? Well, buckle up! This week, we (Jesse and Jason) are pulling back the curtains on the chaotic fun and mischief of the unforgettable film. We highlight the impressive special effects and puppetry that bring the pesky gremlins to life, and dig into the chaos they caused in that charming yet perplexing Christmas town. You'll find yourself chuckling as we discuss the film's iconic Mogwai care rules and Billy's questionable decisions, especially bringing his dog to work and feeding the Mogwai after midnight. Plus, we don't shy away from the not-so-bright spots like the villainous Mrs. Deagle and her cruel antics.

Our journey doesn't stop there. Remember the hilarious mishaps caused by Billy's father's inventions? We draw some amusing comparisons to the failed inventions in "Arrested Development". We also revisit the unforgettable kitchen scene and the dramatic introduction of Gizmo, the adorable Mogwai. But the fun truly begins when we plunge into the mischievous antics of the gremlins, from spitting mails back at the mailman to cutting brakes of the sheriff’s car, causing complete havoc in the town.

Finally, we wrap up our nostalgic trip with a deep-dive into the darker side of the movie.  We also ponder on why there haven't been more movies about these mischievous creatures. Join us for this roller coaster ride through the naughty and nice world of "Gremlins". Trust us, you won't want to miss this trip down memory lane!

    176 - Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) Review

The fiesty Gremlins are in NYC taking over Clamp's high-tech skyscraper.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch was a fun, enjoyable sequel to the beloved 1984 classic, Gremlins. Much to our surprise, it had hilarious characters and clever anecdotes that really let this movie stand out. While it may not be as good as the first movie, it absolutely was a blast to watch. Watch the movie and catch our review.

It's the holiday season and what better time than now to talk about the Christmas classic movie, Gremlins!

Billy is your average kid, living in an average town getting ready for the most wonderful time of the year. But when his dad brings home an early Christmas present, Billy finds himself with an adorable new pet Mogwai that he names Gizmo. Now along with Gizmo comes 3 rules: 1) Never expose it to sunlight 2) Never get it wet and 3) Never, ever feed it after midnight. Things take a dark turn when Billy accidentally breaks 2 of the rules and the town soon finds itself overrun by nightmarish creatures that begin to terrorize and takeover on Christmas eve.

Swiss Army Bathroom (Gremlins - Holiday Special)
When a bumbling inventor gives a live animal to his son as a present, obeying the strict rules for its care becomes a challenge. But when the town is overrun by the animal’s mutated progeny, it’ll take more than breaking the rules of flash photography to save the town from their mischievous wrath. Is Gremlins in the Back to the Future cinematic universe? Which film achieves "Peak Cates"? Is the provenance of Mrs Deagle’s ceramics evil? It’s the episode that chooses the fun path to death!

    Gremlins (1984)

'Tis the season for holiday movies!  And what better way to kick off this season than revisiting this Christmas-themed horror gem from the '80's directed by Joe Dante, starring Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates?  The REAL stars are actually the creatures of the title of course - they can start as cute, furry little things known as Mogwai.  But if you violate two of the three rules - don't let them get wet and don't feed them after midnight - then they can multiply and transform into much less pleasant scaly creatures who relish violence and mischief! :o What resulted was one of the bigger hits of the 1980's and just an endless parade of holiday nastiness....

EP 16: Gremlins & Mogwai - What does mogwai taste like?

EP 16: Gremlins & Mogwai - What does mogwai taste like?

In this episode George and Tony ramble and meander, eventually exploring the furriest axolotl (the Mogwai) and their post pupal stage (Gremlins) for pet purposes.

We ask the big pet questions (before George can throttle Tony):
    * Should you give a biological weapon to your son as a present?
    * Can you feed your Mogwai wet food?
    * What are the industrial uses?
    * Can you bathe them in mayonnaise or do you need to dry-clean them?
    * If your science teacher is murdered, should you tell someone?
    * When will Wes Anderson do a reboot of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves?

Surprisingly, the Mogwai is only the second ACTUAL pet we have looked at. Go figure.

    Episode 15 Gremlins (1984) - A look at Children's Horror

    Episode 15 Gremlins (1984) - A look at Children's Horror

What is Children's Horror? And what do kids get out of it? With Halloween's sweet scent still in the air and Christmas inching closer, co-hosts Robert Lendrum and Jamie Roberts take a look at their first PG film, the holiday classic Gremlins and discuss the film as a horror film for kids. What is the 4th rule of the film? Why did they leave that scene in about Kate's dad? Where did Judge Reinhold go??? What were they thinking when they made Inhumanoids? Is Rob's kid possessed? Of course kids love a movie where they watch little green men tear apart a town! Best bar scene ever?

The episode references a book by Catherine Lester called  Horror Films for Children: Fear and Pleasure in American Cinema published by Bloomsbury.
