So, what happens when lead singers of mighty rock bands branch out on their own, taking all of that powerful stage presence and musical drive into the solo sphere?
What happens when the collective becomes a singular? How does it affect the creative process, but more importantly, what happens to the psyche of someone branching out on their own?
We found out on The Tuckshop as we chatted to Grinspoon’s charismatic, cheeky and super talented front man, Phil Jamieson about his debut solo record, Somebody Else and he performed the title track live in the 2ser studio!

Where do you start with Phil Jamieson?
If you grew up in Australia, heâs been part of the musical fabric for decades. His band Grinspoon were the first band to ever be Unearthed by triple j, they dominated festival line-ups and made more than a few appearances in the Hottest 100.
His music with Grinners has soundtracked our lives, and whether on stage or having a chat, Phil has often been the most entertaining fella in the room. So I was stoked to finally have him Take 5. The catalyst was Phil Jamiesonâs debut; on the day he released his solo album, I asked him to Take 5 with his fave solo songs. Other artists who had taken that great leap of faith, stepped away from their band and gone it alone. From Beyonce to Macca, Tim Rogers to Tina Turner, this is a joyous ride from a big music fan.
Beyonce - Crazy In Love [fat. Jay-Z]
Dave Dobbyn - Slice of Heaven [feat. Herbs]
Paul McCartney and Wings - Let Me Roll It
Bamboos - I Got Burned [feat. Tim Rogers]
Tina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero

The 2001 Big Day Out ends in tragedy with the death of Jessica Michalik during Limp Bizkitâs Sydney set. Jessicaâs best friend Liza Ryan was with her and shares the emotional story of the music fan behind the headline. Phil Jamieson from Grinspoon recalls performing at her memorial.

Australia. We're not just known for kangaroos, stingrays, emus, drop bears and deadly killer magpies down here, we've also got a healthy collection of rock bands, some of whom have been going hard for decades and we've got the frontman of one of those bands on the show this week. Dave Gleeson is someone you'd describe as a typical Aussie bloke, but he's also an icon in the industry, having fronted both The Screaming Jets and The Angels and he's joining the show this week to chat about the Jets' new album Gotcha Covered which features covers of classic Australian bands like The Radiators, Goanna, You Am I, AC/DC, INXS, Hoodoo Gurus and more.
He also takes us back through his life in the early days of playing in a band (when there were more venues accommodating) and even shares his thoughts on newer Australian bands like Tequila Mockingbyrd and Parkway Drive plus offers up his own "helping hand" for upcoming bands looking to make it big outside of Australia.
Podcast host Browny also takes a look at the big news surrounding Divinyls frontwoman Chrissy Amphlett and plays a stack of classic rock tracks from AC/DC, Grinspoon, Jimmy Barnes, Men At Work and Flowers, New Music from The Living End and more...

As far as punk/rockabilly infused acts go, From Parts Unknown may be relatively unknown to the majority of the world, but it's only a matter of time before the masses jump on board and witness the calibre these lads have between them. Hailing from Dallas, Texas the boys recently released their Trucker Speed EP, which at only three songs long, serves as a filler between the band's first album Bruiser and their forthcoming release, which is still in the works. Frontman/Guitarist Ben McCracken joins Browny as this week's podcast co-host to introduce his band to Australian audiences (and the rest of the world) and express his profound love for our very own exports, The Living End.
McCracken also delves into Dallas' live music scene and explains how it managed to come back from the ruins where bands and touring promoters would skip their city in favour of more supportive states, an issue we're currently plagued with in Australia. Can we learn a thing or two ourselves from the way they got out of it? Ben thinks so and offers up advice for those stuck in those cities lacking tours.
There's also throwbacks on the playlist from Grinspoon, Garbage, Spiderbait and The Living End + New Music galore from Parkway Drive, Shinedown, Dear Seattle, PAGAN and Sevendust.

Over the years Australia has produced some decent quality bands who have stood against the test of time and filled our minds with memories of a time when life was much simpler and rock music was the mainstream. One of those bands were The Superjesus who are still floating about to this day and frontwoman Sarah McLeod joins us for Episode 21 of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall to chat about her new solo venture and the imminent return of her band of brothers who are hitting the road across Australia in 2018.
Join podcast host Browny as he heads into the early years of the band and discusses touring back in the day with the likes of Grinspoon, Killing Heidi, Frenzal Rhomb and Jebediah and what the band have planned for the 20th Anniversary of their album Sumo.
We also take a look at the American Idiot Musical and who is sharing the role of St Jimmy alongside Phil Jamieson next year + head back in time checking out throwback tracks from Silverchair, 28 Days, Veruca Salt, Happyland and The Living End. #WoSUATW #SarahMcLeod #TheSuperjesus #AustralianBands #Podcast #VerucaSalt #Seether #KillingHeidi #Happyland #Grinspoon #AmericanIdiot #Silverchair #TheLivingEnd #CoreyTaylor #StoneSour #POD #LinkinPark #XEcutioners #UglyKidJoe #WallOfSoundAU
