Hello everyone! Happy Year of the Rabbit. In today's episode I talk about our out-of-town field trip on Tuesday to celebrate the lunar new year.  Students ate a delicious all-you-can-eat Chinese hot pot buffet and shopped at the H Mart next door. We had a great time! Script and useful expressions below.

这个星期二我带全体学中文的学生去附近的大城市体验了一次正宗的中式火锅和亚洲超市。我让学生跟平时一样八点十分到校。大家在我教室整顿一下以后，八点半我们准时坐校车从学校出发。我们的城市距离附近的大城市并不近。如果是自己开车，谷歌地图说需要不到两个半小时。我之前计划这次行程的时候，觉得坐校车比自己开车的时间最多多一个小时吧。还担心到得太早。但是其实因为校车开得慢（好像只能开到55英里每小时），而且我们中途还去了一次休息区，所以到饭店的时间正好是他们开门的时间。我们到了以后就直接进去了。

来之前我已经跟饭店的老板多次沟通了。比如，他们知道我们差不多几点到，也知道我们是快三十个高中生，从来没吃过火锅，也不太懂怎么吃。老板安排我们坐在一起，还找服务员教我们怎么在iPad上点菜，怎么涮火锅，怎么调酱料。总之，饭店的人都十分热情，有耐心。我们大家吃得很开心。午餐火锅自助是一位24美元。我觉得很实惠！

吃完饭以后，我们就去旁边的H Mart亚洲超市逛了。因为在饭店的时间有点儿长，所以我们在超市只有半个小时时间逛。这么大的超市，我的学生又是第一次来，其实说半个小时是有点儿紧张的。虽然大家也都逛完、买到了自己喜欢的东西，但是下次我会安排更充足的时间让大家好好逛逛，仔细地观察体验亚洲超市。

逛完超市以后我们就返程了。五点半才回到学校。不过，除了回来赶上了晚高峰，交通上一切都还是很顺利的。整个这一天学生们不管在校车上还是在饭店和超市里都是欢声笑语。我们一起提前度过了非常快乐的一个农历新年！

If you’ve ever been to a supermarket in the US, you’ve probably seen an ethnic food aisle. Maybe it was called the "international aisle," or "world foods," but it was the same idea. This is the “It’s A Small World After All” part of the shopping experience. It’s where you’ll find ramen next to coconut milk, next to plantain chips next to harissa. Although ethnic aisles look different in every supermarket, they’re often variations on the same theme. And while so-called “ethnic food brands” get a chance to feed the American masses, they’re still confined to the ethnic aisle. And they may never leave.
