    Runde 25 - Dredge

Greetings fellow students of lore! Today, as part of our month-long celebration of Cultober,  we will be delving into the abhorrent world of H. P. Lovecraft!

Will you look to the cold, distant stars for the secrets of the cosmic Outer Gods and the Great Old Ones, and dive deep into our own oceans to discover the watery R'lyeh where dead Cthulhu waits dreaming?
Will you risk madness along with us to glean but a fragment of the vast knowledge of Yog-sothoth?

We will go to dark, hidden lands to discover many dreadful horrors such as the Elder Things, the Deep Ones, the Great Race of Yith, and so much more.

    Episode 98 - Re-Animator (1985)

    Episode 98 - Re-Animator (1985)

Welcome to the Horror Project Podcast. Join hosts Phil and Laura as they review Re-Animator (1985).

This week we are firmly in the realm of Frankenstein / mad scientist territory, with Jeffrey Combs’ reanimating reagent causing absolute mayhem!

We discuss our own lack of scientific knowledge. The greatest cat-battle ever seen, with the tragic Rufus. Plus the hallmark’s of 80s-horror with extreme gore and nudity, but does Re-Animator take things a little too far?

We shall also find a place on the leaderboard for the movie during our Ranking.

We hope you enjoy the show, thanks for listening!

    Esca

    Esca

The depths of the ocean are as dark and unknowable as the emptiness of space. But to Doctor Clair Margraves, a marine biologist, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of discovery to sate her curiosity. Her next adventure will see her piloting a deep-submersion vehicle on its maiden voyage to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. But something strange is going on at the bottom of the ocean floor, something she’s never seen before. And she intends to find out what.

In Esca, Erica Shaef has created a claustrophobic horror of immense proportions, combining our own natural fear of what might lurk just beneath the surface of the sea with something entirely unnatural.

Performed by Anna Capraro and Scott Miller.
With music and sound design by Mitchell Luthi.

    #044: Top of the Pulps

    #044: Top of the Pulps

As an homage to the spooky fiction that laid the groundwork for the genre work that Your Generals enjoy these days, this week they take a look back to the pulp fiction of the early 1900s. Particularly they have zeroed in on a few stories from three celebrated authors, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, and H. P. Lovecraft. The stories that Zac and Tyler will talk about today are "The Return of the Sorceror", "The Tower of the Elephant", and "The Rats in the Walls" respectively. Come join in as they take a trip back and see how weird things got when three masters of the craft ply their trade. Also with news from The Witcher, Ms. Marvel, and more!

Zac's Recommendation: Worms of the Earth by Robert E. Howard and Kings of the Night by Robert E. Howard

    Tyler's Recommendation: Solomon Kane

    Episode 1: The Folly

    Episode 1: The Folly

The Folly is a dark and thrilling tale of finding, and losing, oneself. A brilliant mix of suburban gothic and cosmic horror, the story follows Winslow, who's recently moved to a chic inner-city neighbourhood in the big city from her farm town. While walking her neighbours dog, she finds much more than she expected in a seemingly-abandoned ruin site.

    ABOUT THE LOCATION
You should be listening to this episode at Deadman’s Castle, a ruin site in the Rideau Park neighbourhood of Calgary’s Southwest. The closest address is: 3625 4 Street SW, Calgary, AB (near the Southern Alberta Pioneers Memorial Building) . If you’re facing the gate of the pioneer building, there’s a bike path to your right just past the row of pine trees. Stay on this path until it bends to the left. There’s a fork in the path, keep left and after a few more steps you’ll find a park bench. This is the location! It’s about a 2-minute walk west 4th street SW.

We have a map of the location, as well as directions, on our website: www.theatrejupiter.com/explore-episode1

At Mike's suggestion we check out some lesser known - and lesser loved - projects by major jazz artists, from the MOR sellout of Bill Evans' "Plays VIPs" to Duke Ellington's fantasia on jazz history and domestic violence, "A Drum is a Woman." After the main event is over, stay tuned for half an hour of wide-ranging talk on the Lovecraftian rock opera "Dreams in the Witch House" - unless you fear for your SANITY. Thelonious Monk – MONK’S BLUES; Bill Evans - PLAYS THE THEME FROM V.I.P.'S AND OTHERS; Freddie Hubbard – SING ME A SONG OF SONGMY; Duke Ellington – A DRUM IS A WOMAN.

Jazz Bastard Podcast 142 - Pat's Happy Place
We're back from our extended look at Cecil Taylor's challenging music and ready for more accessible - if equally rewarding - work by various artists in the modern mainstream. There's a little bit about food, a little bit about Lovecraft, and a lot about four very fine albums that have nothing to do with either edibles or interdimensional monsters. Shamie Royston – BEAUTIFUL LIAR; Ted Sirota’s Rebel Souls - VS. THE FORCES OF EVIL; Christian Artmann – OUR STORY; Black Flower – ABYSSINIA AFTERLIFE.
