    Ep. 218: The Inbetweeners - When 80s Met 90s pt.2

This week we pay homage to bands straddled the world of the 80s hard n’ heavy and the 90s alternative n’ grunge. These were bands that were somewhat outside of the status quo specifically in the hard rock and metal world that seemed to be playing music that was more genre and categorization-defying. Thus we created our own non-genre called; The Inbetweeners!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover all 3 categories and even some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the hard rockin’ 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and some bands simply got caught in the middle. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from and enjoy some music from The Inbetweeners!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Naked Sun – “Psycho-Activate” from Naked Sun (1991)
    2. Funhouse – “Y.R.S.” from Generation Generator (1990)
    3. No Walls – “Naive” from No Wall (1992)
    4. Animal Bag – “Missing Out” from Animal Bag (1992)
    5. Red Sea – “Blood” from Blood (1994)
    6. The Hatters – “Sacrifice” from The Madcap Adventures Of The Avocado Overlord (1994)
    7. Loudhouse – “Faith Farm” from For Crying Out Loud (1991)

The Brochure on Girlfriends, One in Particular

The Brochure on Girlfriends, One in Particular

Women needs to have other female friends.  Friends they can confide in, plan fun things, gossip and be there for each other.  In this episode, I'm going to talk about one friend in particular, my best friend of 32 years - Gina Zamparelli.  The month of May marks her birthday but also the anniversary of her passing.  In 2023, it is five years since we lost her to cancer.  But this isn't a sad episode.  I'll share of my favorite stories of our antics.  There are so many, it's hard to pick!  There was our weekends at FM Station in North Hollywood, all the Hollywood clubs, the trips to Disneyland, our long walks and talks, and so much more.  Longtime friends are so important to our lives.

Ep. 175: Grave Mistake: TORA TORA Shoulda Been Huge with Anthony Corder!!!

Ep. 175: Grave Mistake: TORA TORA Shoulda Been Huge with Anthony Corder!!!

This week we present another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. However, this is a first for us as we actually have the artist on to walk us through their journey thus far! We got to sit down and chat with Anthony Corder the lead singer for the amazingly awesome Tora Tora! We think this band Shoulda Been Huge and ruled the 90s!!!

This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. As many folks who know this band did; Kevin picked up their debut, “Surprise Attack” back in 1989 and fell in love with their bluesy hard rockin’ swagger. We know that everyone is not familiar with their other albums due to the changing climate of the early 1990’s. Hopefully, we can turn you on further to this amazing band. Have a listen and find out for yourself! Thanks so much to Anthony for sharing his time and stories with us.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Tora Tora – “Dancing With A Gypsy” from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (1989)

    5. Tora Tora - “Revolution Day” from Revolution Day (1994)
    6. Tora Tora – “Rose Of Jericho” from Bastards Of Beale (2019)
    7. Tora Tora – “Little Girl Blue” from Little Girl Blue - single (2021)

Ep. 174: Old In The 90's - What Were They Thinking Again?

Transmission 1991: Danger! Danger! The Dinosaurs are at severe risk of extinction unless they can quickly evolve into a down-tuned, depressed, dirgy, dirty, flannel-wearing anti-dinosaur! Living fossils that once rocked stadiums with shredding guitars, spandex, lipstick, and hair spray have purchased wah-wah pedals and must sing about something other than their love pumps! Listen with extreme caution, as they will surely collapse under the weight of their folly. You have been warned... Whatever…

Ep. 111: Return Of The Shogun - 80's Japanese Metal

Ep. 111: Return Of The Shogun - 80's Japanese Metal

Kon’nichiwa! Join us this week as we once again make a journey to the far east to the land of the rising sun. This time we jump back to the decade when the western world was introduced to the thunder from Osaka and the lightning from Tokyo. A time when the samurai wielded electric guitars and made the statement to the world that they were a force to reckoned with… This week we welcome the return of the shogun – 80’s Japanese Metal!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. We do apologize in advance to Japanese and Japanese-speaking people for all mispronunciations and extreme naivete of Japanese culture and history! This is completely a Westerner’s take on the 1980’s Japanese heavy metal where many of us were first turned on to this country’s amazingly talented rock musicians.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Seikima II - “蝋人形の館 – Wax Doll House” from Worst (1989)
    2. EZO - “Kiss Of Fire” from E-Z-O (1987)
    3. Heavy Metal Army - “Heavy Metal Army” from Heavy Metal Army (1981)
    4. Vow Wow - “Nightless City” from Vow Wow III (1986)
    5. Dead End - “The Damned Thing” from Ghost Of Romance (1987)
    6. Anthem - “Light It Up” from Tightrope (1986)
    7. Earthshaker - “T-O-K-Y-O” from Midnight (1984)
    8. Blizard - “Fly High” from Blizard (1987)
