Meet Jo Piazza

JJo Piazza is a bestselling author, podcast creator, and award-winning journalist. She is the bestselling author of many critically acclaimed novels and nonfiction books including We Are Not Like Them, Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win, The Knockoff, and How to Be Married. A former editor, columnist, and travel writer with Yahoo, Current TV, and the Daily News (New York), her work has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Glamour, Elle, Time, Marie Claire, The Daily Beast, and Slate. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in economics and communication, a master’s in journalism from Columbia University, and a master’s in religious studies from New York University. On this episode of the Droid Life Show, we're all-in on the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+. We may not talk about anything else, to be honest, because the Note 10 is not only available in stores, but we've got both (finally) and all sorts of thoughts to share.

Once we do finally move on from the Note, we have got to talk about new Android branding, the death of Android dessert names, and Android 10 as what's next from our favorite mobile platform. We also have news on the OnePlus TV, Hangouts, and a new Google Home Mini.

In this TalkingHeadz, Dave and Evan hangout with Scott Johnston, Director of Product Management at Google. Among Scott's responsibilities are the communications and collaboration applications within G Suite which includes Hangouts Meet, Hangouts Chat, and Google Voice. 

We discuss all of those as well as other things G including new leadership, Chromebooks and the Jamboard. 

2019 is expected to be a big year for Google with regards to enterprise communications and collaboration. The Hangouts Classic app will be replaced with two separate apps: Hangouts Meet (for conferencing) and Hangouts Chat (for messaging). Additionally, Google will be launching Google Voice as an integrated, optional UCaaS service. 

Google has quietly become not only an enterprise vendor, but a comprehensive one. The anchors are Google Cloud services for workloads and G Suite for workflow or office productivity. G Suite communications includes Hangouts and Voice. Google also has a number of additional communications services including Google AI for Contact Centers, room systems for conferencing, Duplex chatbots, Google Fi wireless service, and an arsenal of endpoints (Chrome browser, ChromeOS, and Android). 

On this episode of the Droid Life Show, we're diving into a week filled with 5G and Snapdragon 855 talk, which means we're looking at the future. Our 2019 is taking shape, friends.

We'll also look at the December Android security patch, since it should have fixed a whole bunch of issues with the Pixel 3, let you know why I think 5G sounds awful right now, and try and clear up the messaging plans of Google. They are simplifying!
