Episode #19-History Addendum Episode One, PART ONE: "Goin' Up The Country" Race, Records and the American Musical Identity
Well, here's something new. The first episode of the spinoff project is now available. The Old Dingy Juke Box: History Addendum. These history heavy, music related, episodes are inspired by my interest in musicology and history as well as some of my favorite podcasts like Dan Carlin's "Hardcore History" or Tyler Mahan Coe's "Cocaine and Rhinestones". Will I ever be as good as Dan Carlin? No. This is an experiment that I'm excited about, and frankly a little nervous about. Future history addendum shows will continue to include episodes written and produced by me, but also shows featuring the writings of musician/writer/guitar collector extraordinaire, Deke Dickerson. The usual shows that you're used to will continue to be released on a regular basis. So, here it goes...check out episode one, part one..."Goin' Up The Country": Race, Records and the American Musical Identity. Available on all podcast platforms. War Remains VR Experience Sidequest!
Hello Lamer Gamers, this is simplyTravis and special guest LoyalHistorian with a special SIDEQUEST edition of the Lamer Gamers Podcast.
We drove more than 250 miles from the steamy swamps of Southeast Texas to the majestic hipster haven in the hill country known as Austin...also in Texas... to experience...virtual war. And by that I mean Dan Carlin’s virtual reality experience War Remains which gave us the chance to experience the sights, sounds, and explosive immersive reality behind World War I trench warfare.
Today we’re going to walk you through what we experienced at War Remains and discuss the history behind World War I. As we walk through the experience we’ll dive into what it was like to be a soldier on the front line, in the trenches, and up in the air. We’ll finish up by discussing how this use of gaming technology is viewed by a historian vs a gamer. Now that we have our marching orders it’s time to load up and move on out!
Hardcore Black History - Part 2 - Slouching Towards Baltimore: Dreams of a Ghetto Utopia and the History Behind the #BaltimoreUprising
In Part Two of In Search of Black Power's Hardcore (Black) History of Baltimore, we tell the story of one of the grandfathers of the neoliberal city, Jim Rouse, depicting what happened when his vision of city planning as "civic engineering" came to West Baltimore. In trying to create a utopia in Upton, did liberal reformers and nonprofit developers sow the seeds for the 2015 Baltimore Uprising?
