The Borders of Canaan - The Book of Numbers

God denies them access to the promised land and are banished to wander in the wilderness for 40 years. This story is inspired by Numbers 13-14. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is Numbers 13:18 from the King James Version.

Episode 45: Israel is finally on the borders of the promised land, so Moses sends out 12 spies, one from each tribe, at God’s command, and has them enter the land secretly for 40 days and bring back a report of what they see. Upon returning, 10 of the twelve are frightened and bring back a bad report. Only 2 of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, come back with hope and zeal for God’s promise. But this is not enough for the camp to change their minds. Once again the people of Israel give in to fear and refuse to trust in God’s goodness.

Employing Differences, Episode 176: Does directness work?

"I definitely have spent a lot of my life cleaning up messes that came because somebody asked me a question and I gave them a clear and decisive answer. And in fact, what they wanted was something that felt to them softer, more collaborative, more engaging."

Paul & Karen discuss benefits and drawbacks of being direct.

    "Weight Doesn't Matter"

    "Weight Doesn't Matter"

Alert - This is not an episode about weight, diet or exercise! Instead this is a snippet of a quote from a powerful illustration given by a professor to his students. The weight in question was that of a glass of water he was holding. His question: "how heavy is this glass of water?" The answer is surprise and needful!

The imagery of that presentation, mixed with a few others I'd like to make concerning both soda and lots of water... are designed to help you deal with three really, really heavy things: Harsh Life Situations, Intense Personal Temptations, and Unrelenting Spiritual Despair. I genuinely hope today helps you. Maybe the greatest thing to learn today is that you don't have to wait for those things to dissipate. Their weight doesn't matter... if you can learn about how to put the glass down.

    - What is the result of carrying something longer than you should?

    - Does our stress more often come from the problem or how we carry it?

    - How does a glass of water help us with harsh life situations?

    - How does a wall of water help us deal with intense personal temptations?

    - How does a pool of water teach us to come up from unrelenting spiritual despair?

What Does the Bible Say About A Fathers Role #2

What Does the Bible Say About A Fathers Role #2

Arnie and Fred continue their discussion of a father's role by noting that a father is required by God to correct his children. Solomon has a good bit to say about this and we look at several of his Proverbs teaching this. Paul and the Hebrew writer also teach us about this concept. Encouragement of children is also in the mix, and we discuss this. The father's responsibility as head or leader of the family is an important role for him. We examine this and talk about why God would require this of fathers and the result if this responsibility is not exercised. Spiritual guidance is another important aspect of the father's role, and we note what the Bible says about this. We conclude by discussing the father's responsibility to provide the necessities of life for his family. Take about 30-minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript of this Buzzsprout episode provided for your convenience.

Abigail and David - The Book of 1 Samuel

Abigail and David - The Book of 1 Samuel

In this Bible Story, Samuel passes away and David marries Abigail. David’s community of outcasts and vagabonds continued to grow and thrive under his leadership. This story is inspired by 1 Samuel 25. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is 1 Samuel 25:39 from the King James Version.

Episode 91: While David was in the wilderness near Carmel he met a group of sheep shearers belonging to a rich man named Nabal. David took care of the men and when it came time for them to return, he sent messengers to ask Nabal if he would give them food in return for taking care of his men. Nabal, however, was arrogant and cantankerous, refusing the men David sent, answering them harshly. Luckily, Nabal's wife Abigail intercepted and interceded on behalf of her husband, restraining David from killing Nabal in his wrath.

#103: Church Series - What is a Pastor Pt. 2

#103: Church Series - What is a Pastor Pt. 2

In the second part of our What is a Pastor Segment of the Church Series, we dive into an aspect of God's people that is ultimately missed within the conversation of shepherding. Can pastoring only be done by men? Or are we all called to it? When our pride is removed and we seek first the kingdom of God, we will see that He has added to the profile of the Bride of Christ a  beauty that we seldom rejoice over and consequentially, seldom live out.

#102: Church Series - What is a Pastor Pt. 1

#102: Church Series - What is a Pastor Pt. 1

In this segment of our Church and Culture Series, we discuss the office of Pastor - a highly respected, divinely assigned yet humanly coveted office. Why is there so much controversy over the office? Why is there so much hurt that comes at the hands of those who carry the office? Why is there so much neglect for those who are called to the office? Why is there so much idolatry of those of hold the office e? It seems that we need to back up and find a biblical understanding of the role in order for us to faithfully regard the office.
