    Sports and Heart Health

    Sports and Heart Health

Exercise is an important component of maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system. But there’s often an assumption that athletes, or physically active people, are not at risk of heart-related issues. Athletes are not immune. They can suffer from cardiovascular conditions at any point in their lives. Activity can range from mild to intense -- from the amateur to the marathon runner or professional athlete. It’s vital for every type of athlete to stay on top of their heart health.

Cardiology: Understanding the Imperative of Pre-Authorizations

Cardiology: Understanding the Imperative of Pre-Authorizations

In continuing our observance of American Heart Month, during the next live edition of the Talk Ten Tuesdays live Internet radio broadcast we will zero in on the topic of coding and clinical documentation integrity (CDI) issues related to cardiovascular procedures – and, specifically, the importance of obtaining pre-authorizations for cardiology procedures.

Obtaining cardiology procedure pre-authorizations tends to be a time-consuming process, depending on the complexity of the patient’s insurance coverage and staff experience. And that is why we invited Susie Vestevech, the COO for TiaTech USA, to walk you through the process, which can range from several days to several weeks, often requiring multiple phone calls and documentation submissions.

Every year, some 805,000 people in the United States have a heart attack. Basically, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds. Making certain that your facility is prepared to obtain cardio procedure pre-authorizations is of vital importance every month, not just in February.

The live broadcast will also feature these other segments:

    • Coding Report: Laurie Johnson, senior healthcare consultant with Revenue Cycle Solutions, LLC, will report on the latest coding news.

    • SDoH Report: Tiffany Ferguson, a subject-matter expert on the social determinants of health (SDoH), will report on the news that’s happening at the intersection of coding and the SDoH.

    • News Desk: Timothy Powell, CPA, will anchor the Talk Ten Tuesdays News Desk.

    • TalkBack: Erica Remer, MD, founder and president of Erica Remer, MD, Inc. and Talk Ten Tuesdays co-host, will report on a subject that has caught her attention during her popular segment.

    Women & Heart Health

    Women & Heart Health

Both men and women get heart disease, but women are more likely to die from it.  In fact, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. As American Heart Month continues, we turn our attention to women's heart health.

Host, Jonathan Fialkow, M.D., welcomes Heather Johnson, M.D., a preventive cardiologist at the Christine E. Lynn Women's Health & Wellness Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, a part of Baptist Health.  They discuss the roles played by anatomy, hormones, inflammatory diseases and lifestyle factors on women's heart health at every stage of life.

    The Kid of Steel

    The Kid of Steel

When we think of comic books, we think of the typical things.  Soaring through the air, the capes, the symbols, beating the bad guy.  You know, superhero stuff.  But for the kids at Arkansas Children's their superpowers are even more page turning and for some cardiac patients the symbol on their chest makes them a superhero come to life.  On this episode on the Live Learn and Play Podcast we talk with Adam Cherepski, Alex's Dad, about Alex's origin story and how he's using his powers for good.
