In the mid-1980s, law enforcement was scrambling to figure out if a series of murders of red-haired women from Texas to Pennsylvania was the act of a serial killer. The state of Tennessee, specifically, seemed to be a hotbed for the murders. Law enforcement was even questioning Henry Lee Lucas, the convicted serial killer, but stopped when an article was released claiming that Lucas fabricated more than 200 confessions to murders he claimed to partake in. There is little doubt that if the article had not been released, Lucas would have confessed to the red head killings as well.

This sets the stage for the climate that was West Tennessee in the 1980s when Nancy Lynn Blankenship, a woman with red hair, disappeared.

In August of 1979, the body of an unidentified woman was found in rural Utah.  Although Henry Lee Lucas claimed he killed her, the case of the toothless "Jane Doe" remains open.  Episode guests:  Rick Goroshko, whose mother Dorothy Goroshko went missing in Boston in 1975, and Angela Willoughby, a volunteer from Millard County.  Learn how you can help us solve this and other cold cases on our website.

This episode contains never-before-heard conversations with "The Confession Killer" Henry Lee Lucas.  We review the evidence that ruled out Lucas and resulted in Provo police reopening the 1978 murder of Marla Scharp.

Henry Lee Lucas confessed in 1984 to the sexual assault and murder of Marla Scharp in Provo, Utah six years earlier.  Based on Lucas' confession, Marla's case was closed without anyone being charged.  This episode contains never before heard conversations with "The Confession Killer" Henry Lee Lucas.

Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Toole committed at least four murders, or maybe five. They were, collectively, convicted of seventeen. But they definitely didn't kill some of the people they were convicted of killing. They would confess to over 600. And they for sure didn't kill all of them. But they may have killed others they never confessed too. They were definitely murderers and they were definitely liars and they seemed to enjoy lying more than murdering. And unlike most criminals, they loved to lie about crimes they definitely didn't commit. They were terrible men who wanted to be known as pure evil men. And their tale is a strange one, a dark one, and a fascinating one. Join me as I try to separate dark fact from even darker fiction, today, on Timesuck!
