    1968 (Part 2)

    1968 (Part 2)

It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a three parter anyways. 1968 was a ground breaking year for horror movies, well, as far as the big hitter films are concerned anyways. The highs are really high & the lows are few & far between. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 1968? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and over 3 hours of running time split over 4 episodes. This is 1968, A Year In Horror.

    Simply the Best...Road Car

    Simply the Best...Road Car

If you set the rules and make up your own criteria, you can argue anything with this one.  As Tony and Mike ably prove in this edition, there are so many parameters for what makes a truly great road car.

The Chums mange to agree on quiet a few in the end though – even a winner.  Of sorts.  So download a copy, pop it in the 8-Track, cassette deck or CD changer and relax to the sounds of Car-Chum.

#46 AUTO - Neues Model, alte Teile

#46 AUTO - Neues Model, alte Teile

But: Handwash only.

In rot.

    Wollt Ihr ultimative Autotipps?

    Herbie Fully Loaded

    Herbie Fully Loaded

This week the society takes a victory lap with our favorite forgotten Volkswagen in the latest installment to the Herbie franchise with the 2005 comedy Herbie: Fully Loaded, directed by Angela Robinson and starring early 2000s it girl, Lindsay Lohan with Justin Long, Matt Dillon and Michael Keaton. Get your sponsorship plugs in, look for some loopholes in the NASCAR rule book, then run by the car show to pick up some VW parts and do a little illegal street racing but  watch out for "that tree" on your way home.

Jason Concepcion on Herbie Hancock's "Thrust" (1974)

Jason Concepcion on Herbie Hancock's "Thrust" (1974)

Album: Herbie Hancock: Thrust (1974)   Thrust followed on the heels of Herbie Hancock’s genre-altering best-seller Head Hunters album, one in which the gifted keyboardist and composer played with new conceptions of fusion jazz and synthesizer technology. Thrust, in many ways, could be considered a second half to Head Hunters; recorded within months of its predecessors with almost all the same players. Once again, Hancock and his team plumbed the possibilities of mixing funk rhythms with jazz improvisation, resulting in four tracks of fusion fire that, to our guest Jason Concepcion, marked a high point before a onslaught of “smooth jazz” would dial everything down.    Concepcion is perhaps best known to people as a basketball savant as a staff writer for The Ringer and Emmy-winning producer behind their NBA Desktop segment. I first discovered him via Twitter, thanks to his expert, witty writing as @netw3rk. However, for all his sports acumen, Concepcion is also Berkelee School-trained, having once attended there with the ambition of going into film composition. Thrust was a revelatory way in which he engaged with the possibilities of jazz, soul and funk experimentations. During our conversation, we discussed Hancock’s penchant for innovation in that era, the highs and lows of 1970s fusion jazz plus we took a side trip into the current state of the 365 day NBA “season.”   More on Jason Concepcion
