The Mountain | God Still Speaks

The Mountain | God Still Speaks
We want to show and receive God’s love to those around us, and we live that out practically everyday. We strive to bring hope by meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of everyone we come in contact with. We love fiercely—like a family, because everyone is included and our Father loves us all. We’re building biblical community by seeking God’s Word, believing in His promises, and applying what we learn everyday. Our hope is that you and your family find a home with us where you can learn, grow, live, and thrive in Christ Jesus. We’re a multi-generational church with something to offer everyone in your family. Join us for an online or on-campus Sunday morning worship service, and take the next step in your journey with us!

The Bible Doesn't Say That | Preach The Gospel At All Times And If Necessary, Use Words

The Bible Doesn't Say That | Preach The Gospel At All Times And If Necessary, Use Words
We are looking at the last non-biblical statement today, one that's attributed to St. Francis - "Preach the gospel, and if necessary, use words." Today, we learn that this statement is not only false, but it incorrectly shapes how we share the gospel with the lost. It places emphasis on us doing good works instead of the truth that Christ has saved us from sin. As Christians, we should reshape this phrase to "Share the gospel, always with words, and live a life that strives to back it up."

The Bible Doesn't Say That | God Helps Those Who Help Themselves

The Bible Doesn't Say That | God Helps Those Who Help Themselves
"I thank you that I'm not like the rest of these people." Now before you start judging, you've probably said this before, at least in your mind. Satan wants us to believe that our spiritual transformation and our faith walk are more dependent upon us and our behavior rather than completely on God's mercy. The other side of the coin is the desperation that we fall in when we don't meet the mark. As we dig deeper, we see both sides of pride and desperation in the scripture, and we learn that Christ's completed work on the cross abolishes both these viewpoints.

E237: Burnt Hickory Brewery Explains it All

E237: Burnt Hickory Brewery Explains it All
Meet brewery owner, punk rocker, and Emmy-winning TV news camera man... Burnt Hickory Brewery's Scott Hedeen

Burnt Hickory Brewery's founder and brewmaster Scott Hedeen has been a "friend of the show" since before the show was even a show.  In the early days of Burnt Hickory (when Georgia breweries could only do tastings) we visited for the monthly gathering to enjoy their core beers and sneak a small pour of their rarities like Kolb's Farm stout and Charred Walls of the Damned Quad.  The tastings started with small groups of 30ish people but over time grew to welcome 1,000 or more at their events.

Hedeen has never shied away from doing crazy things with beer.  You'll find basic IPAs, Pilsners, and Stouts available but you also might find a beer loaded with coffee and stroboscopes, or blended with Butterfinger bars.  Most of his creations are excellent, although he admits the candy corn IPA was a bad call.

With opinions on every subject it's easy to get Hedeen on a roll.  When asked, "How was your week?", we get a 10 minute dissertation on the impact of Covid on breweries.  We also discuss brewing trends, his life before beer, punk rock, Georgia's new beer delivery bill, and what's next for Burnt Hickory.

Summer of Psalms | Lessons from the Fall

Summer of Psalms | Lessons from the Fall
God's not punishing us so that we can receive justice. That's what he's already done through Jesus. The aim of God sent consequences of forgiven sin are to demonstrate the exceedingly evilness of sin, just to show us that, hey sin stings, sin is evil. And it's not just a get out of jail free card. Did I blow it? Yeah! But I know that my Maker, the Creators of the heaven and earth, He has made me whole. He wants to make you whole. He doesn't want to leave you in the bottom. He wants you to see that it's him. In fact, look at the cry of David's heart he takes us to school on what we should be praying and crying if we want God to get us out of the pit. He says, "Create in me, a pure heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me." He begs God to make him pure, he begs God to make him new. He begs God to fully restore the power and the presence of his relationship in his life. That should be our prayer this week to get us out of the pit.

Summer of Psalms | What Does it Take to Be Happy?

Summer of Psalms | What Does it Take to Be Happy?
When our happiness is based on your circumstances, we are at the mercy of the season of life we find ourselves in and we will never be sucessful at removing all the obsticals in the way of joy. This is why its crucial to have our anchor point outside of ourselves and place our roots in who Jesus is. Oh God, I have tasted thy goodness and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I'm painfully conscious of my need for further grace and I'm ashamed of my lack of desire, oh God. And I want to want thee. I long to be filled with longing. My thirst to be made thirsty or still. God give me the grace to rise up and follow thee.

The 2010 Murder Of 10 Year Old Cancer Survivor Zahra Baker By Her Step-Mother Elisa Fairchild

**KD IS NO LONGER WITH ORBITAL JIGSAW OR BLUBRRY**

We are taking a break from California Crime and traveling clear across the US to Hickory, North Carolina to discuss the disturbing and tragic murder of 10-year-old Zahra Clare Baker, a two time cancer survivor from Giru, Australia.  Zahra moved to the US with her dad in 2008 after he met and married a so called Gothic Fairy named Elisa Fairchild.  Little did he know this woman had a checkered past, a spotty criminal history, and a half dozen marriages prior to him.    Voicemail bumper courtesy of Deborah in Southern California and promo from The Brew Crime Podcast

E143: Burnt Hickory Brewery talks about everything

E143: Burnt Hickory Brewery talks about everything

Burnt Hickory Brewery's Scott Hedeen is part idea man, part madman

I first met Scott Hedeen when Burnt Hickory Brewery was just a few months old.  Over the years he has become one of my very favorite people in the whole world.  He's also very high on the list of people that drive me crazy.  It's a weird relationship, but it works.

Hedeen is an idea man.  He's constantly thinking (and talking) about what's next.  For him, for others, for everything.  The wheels are constantly spinning.  This makes for some great conversations, amazingly creative ideas, and a 5-minute phone call about hops turning into a 50-minute phone call about IPA, playing the theremin, 80s punk, and standup comedy.

Hedeen founded his brewery in 2011 and produced his first commercial batch in April 2012.  Back then, his Wonka World of craft beer only opened to the public one Saturday each month.  Initially, 20-30 dedicated fans showed up for the tastings but it wasn't long before they numbered in the hundreds.  BHB's fans weren't just normal beer lovers, they felt connected to the brewery and the beer, they were passionate about it.  Those who didn't "get" what Burnt Hickory was about went as far as calling their fans a cult.  That's not far from the truth.

This week, Hedeen and Burnt Hickory taproom manager Heddy Proctor join us to talk about their adventure.  We talk a little bit about their brewery and growth, a lot about music, why it's important for breweries to support homebrewers, and several other topics that I was not able to keep up with.  Scott has something to say about everything, and we tried to catch as much of it as we could.

This is Burnt Hickory Brewery's third appearance on Beer Guys Radio.  They also joined us on Ep. 13 in March 2016 and Ep. 56 in Jan. 2017.

In this week's news we talk about comedian Jim Gaffigan's jab at craft beer, I oldest brewery in the world is found, and Atlanta taking the #1 spot in a list of growing craft beer destinations.
