Unofficial डेटा बताते है कि यह आकड़ा कहीं ज्यादा है. एक और आंकड़ा है जो कहता है कि, भारत में ड्रग की लत का इलाज करवाने जाने वालों में 63% लोग ऐसे होते हैं जिन्हे इसकी लत 15 साल से भी कम उम्र में लग गई थी. गरीबी और ड्रग की लत हिंसा और अपराध के प्रमुख कारक है. अमीर घर से आने वाले बच्चों के माता - पिता अपने बच्चों को लत से मुक्ति दिलाने के लिए rehabilitation center भेजने में सक्षम होते है लेकिन ज्यादातर गरीब इस तरह की सुविधा से वंचित रहते हैं. मुंबई के CSMT में 1993 से एक डे केयर सेंटर था जो गरीब बच्चों को नशे की लत से उबरने में मदद करता था. लेकिन आज वो सेंटर अपनी मूल जगह से इतना दूर शिफ्ट हो चुका है कि, नशे से जूझ रहे बच्चे सेंटर जाना तो चाहते हैं, लत के खिलाफ लड़ाई लड़ना चाहते हैं, लेकिन सेंटर अब दूर होने की वजह से वहां नहीं जा पा रहे है और डे केयर सेंटर उसके मूल जगह पर वापस लाने की मांग कर रहे है.
