60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Predicting Death Dates & 10 Tips for Living a Longer Life

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Predicting Death Dates & 10 Tips for Living a Longer Life

Hello to you listening in Rowley Ghost Town, Alberta, Canada!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

The other day my friend and colleague SB Rawz of Rawz Coaching floated a question about death. She acknowledged that when asked most people do not wish to know the time and place of their death.

I pondered that for a bit. Then I asked myself, “Self, do I want to know?”

On the one hand I might be spurred to live my life more intentionally, squander less time in front of the computer, really listen to sounds of silence, of dawn, of twilight. I imagine I’d savor my meals instead of holding a bowl while I worked in front of - the computer. Perhaps I’d give myself permission to walk away from the office. I’d ask for less and dream more. Maybe I’d keep track of every opportunity I declined so I realized what matters most. And so on.

On the other hand I’d have to get used to the idea that my days really are numbered; which, of course, they are, but I fail to pay attention. Would I live in anxiety? Perhaps the knowledge would weigh me down. What if I had high hopes for my future? Would I retreat from those hopes because I might not be able to reach them? Or, double down so that I could?

I’ll share a secret: Given the opportunity to predict my death date on The Death Clock I opted out.

Question: Would you want to know the time and place of your passing? Or not? And how come?

Tips For Living a Longer Life

    1) Maintain a Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight is vital to reduce the risk of developing diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.

    2) Regular Exercise

Get moving for at least 30 minutes a day. Regular physical activity reduces the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

    3) Stop Smoking

Avoid smoking and second-hand smoke. These can lead to various types of cancer, heart disease, and lung diseases.

    4) Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet full of nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains is critical. Avoid consuming too much processed foods, refined sugars, and unhealthy fats.

    5) Drink Less (or no) Alcohol

Limit alcohol intake. While occasional social drinking is usually okay, heavy or prolonged drinking can lead to a number of health issues including liver disease, cardiovascular problems, and cancer.

    6) Good Sleep

Try to get a good night's sleep. Quality sleep is important for overall health and well-being. It affects mood, memory, and healing processes.

    7) Regular Check-ups

Regular screenings and medical check-ups can help detect problems early. This is especially important for conditions that don't always show noticeable symptoms, like high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

    8) Manage Stress

Long-term stress can lead to a number of health issues. Practice stress management techniques like mindfulness, meditation, yoga, or other relaxation exercises.

    9) Maintain Social Connections

Relationships and social interactions are vital for mental health. Loneliness and social isolation can lead to depression and cognitive decline.

    10) Lifelong Learning

Keep your mind active. Lifelong learning, reading, solving puzzles, or other brain-engaging activities can help to keep your mind sharp and potentially delay the onset of cognitive decline. [© 2024 death-clock.org by the Grim Reaper. All Rights Reserved. Our privacy policy]

Sony's "Madame Web" faces colossal Box Office failure, shattering future Superhero plans

Sony's "Madame Web" faces colossal Box Office failure, shattering future Superhero plans
Sony grapples with a major setback as its latest superhero film, Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson, disappointingly garners a mere $52 million during its Valentine's Day opening weekend. Despite ambitious plans to introduce characters like Julia Carpenter, Anya Corazon, and Mattie Franklin for potential sequels, the movie emerges as one of the most considerable superhero flops. This poor reception signals a potential hiatus for any further exploration of the clairvoyant superhero, with insiders anticipating a prolonged absence of Madame Web from the big screen. Sony now pins its hopes on upcoming releases like Kraven the Hunter and Venom 3 to recalibrate its superhero aspirations in an ever-evolving cinematic landscape.

We All Want Impossible Things - with Catherine Newman

We All Want Impossible Things - with Catherine Newman

As the Red Queen counseled Alice, she said "Why sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."  How about you?

When faced with serious illness, dying, or death it is natural to want things that are impossible. For example, everyone dies; we may cheat death a time or two, but in the end death is inescapable. If we never died, would life be unendurable and meaningless if it went on forever? This week we explore the elusive parts of life, the seemingly impossible aspects of living.

    In this Episode:

    • 02:45 - Foods That Can Help You Get Better Sleep
    • 12:11 - The World Needs Some Impossible Things
    • 29:39 - Interview with Catherine Newman, "We All Want Impossible Things"
    • 53:22 - Outro

We talk about the things we want in life but that we can’t seem to get. In the first half Charlie talks about one of those things - sleep - and he has our recipe of the week. Marianne talks about the things in life that seem to be impossible to have, but that we want anyway, and we have an interview with the author of the best-selling book, We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman. This novel is about dying and death of a woman with ovarian with ovarian cancer from the perspective of her best friend since nursery school.
