Fall Hunts - the Original Fox Hunting Tradition

Fall Hunts - the Original Fox Hunting Tradition

The fall hunts, a tradition dating back almost 500 years. The British were the original group that started this tradition of riding horseback while hounds chased down the foxes who were killing the livestock.  Now in current times, the annual fall hunts have changed from actually hunting a fox to more of an opportunity for like-minded friends to get together with their horses for an afternoon of riding. Many traditions still exist from the early days of what clothing attire is required, the style of riding, and the files of the field. Fall hunts are a great way to enjoy an afternoon of field cantering and cross country jumping before the winter snow takes over.

    Bareback Riding? Convenience or Lazy?

    Bareback Riding? Convenience or Lazy?

Why do you ride bareback?  Is it so you can really feel your horse move or do you do it because you are too lazy to put the saddle on? That is the question we are asking in the podcast. Bareback horse riding came first. Long before the invention of the saddle, man was riding his horses bareback. Truth be known, when it comes to horse and rider, a saddle is not a necessity, but merely a handy tool of convenience. Bareback horse riding is arguable, the fastest way to develop your skill as a rider. Many riders use their saddle and their reins as a crutch. Humans tend to be rather lazy creatures. We won’t learn anything unless we have to, and that goes for balance as well. It’s only natural for a rider to take advantage of the stirrups and the saddle horn that sits so conveniently at their disposal.
