Out of Nowhere - Season 2 Episode 2
What if you heard that Martians were invading the world? Within hours New York City was gone, death and devastation coming across the radio airways. And that still wasn't the biggest story of the week?
When the 23 year-old phenom Orson Welles broadcast across the radio airways his adaptation of War of the Worlds - many feared for their lives, and the entire newspaper industry aimed to end his career. It didn’t look good. Then, EVERYTHING changed in a minute. What took the headlines away from Welles and quite possibly saved not only his program, but his entire profession?
Top Fold is dedicated to, "All the news that would have been". What does that mean? That means that on 9/11, or when the Hindenburg exploded, or Elvis Presley died, headlines were replaced and stories fell below the fold.
What event happened that was huge but wasn’t talked about because something else monumental took the headlines? The -name of the podcast comes from a combination of "TOP Story" and "Above the FOLD"-TOP FOLD.
Original music by David "Beezer" Wagler.

Kentucky Derby is coming back with fans ... wait, why?
Churchill Downs announced this week that the Kentucky Derby is coming back with fans in September.
That's a surprising development considering sports have been slow to comeback even without fans and cases of Covid-19 are surging across the U.S.
We've not been told how many fans would be allowed to attend the Derby, which was delayed from its usual May date because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Churchill Downs officials have said the crowd could be reduced by as much as 60 percent but that would still be tens of thousands of people at one venue — 45,000 to 60,000 even.
We chat about the plan on this week's Access Louisville podcast. Reporter Marty Finley, who closely follows Churchill Downs shares the details and editors David A. Mann and Brooke Timmons discuss whether this is a good idea. (It isn't, we conclude.)
As always we don't just talk about one topic. We also discuss the sale of Headliners Music Hall and share a few of our favorite memories from the storied venue. And we get an update on plans to bring soccer back to Louisville.
