#90 Jack Jenkins | Chasing UFC Greatness | Returning From Injury | TSWS PODCAST

Jack Jenkins is a UFC fighter based in Melbourne, Australia.
In many people and my opinion, he is one of the hottest prospects to ever come out of Australia with insanely technical striking skills and a gas tank that many people dream of.
As well as fighting he also has a deep passion for horses and horse racing.
Coming off a loss from his last fight due to an elbow injury sustained during the fight, Jack is keen as ever to get back in there as soon as possible!
    ENJOY!

'Won't keep you, Les' — Andrew Rule's eulogy for Les Carlyon, Flemington, Melbourne, 2019

'Won't keep you, Les' — Andrew Rule's eulogy for Les Carlyon, Flemington, Melbourne, 2019

A bonus episode with Walkley winning journalist Andrew Rule recorded when we chatted about his eulogy for his father (episode 44)

This episode is about Andrew's eulogy for Les Carlyon, a fellow legend of Australian journalism and writing. The speech was delivered on March 12th 2019 at Flemington racecourse, the home of Australian racing and the location for some of Carlyon's most beautiful writing. As Andrew says in the speech, he was the poet laureate of the turf.

Andrew Rule has a 'Life and Crimes' podcast and I was a guest talking footy rogues, 'Black sheep in footy boots'.

I read out a list of thank yous in this episode to people who have been 'super subscribers',(Beyond the $5 per month) either as 'founding members' at the newsletter or 'Standing Ovation' donors on Patreon

    Episode Twenty-Six - 15th October 1987 - Oh Macanndy Man Can

    Episode Twenty-Six - 15th October 1987 - Oh Macanndy Man Can

Batten down the hatches, take shelter and ignore Michael Fish, because there's a hurricane brewing! Coming live from BBC TV Centre on the very night of the Great Storm of 1987, Maggie Philbin and Howard Stableford brave the rotten weather outside, while sensible Judith Hann and Peter Macann stay dry in the studio. There's a whole load of nonsense segments this episode, with a couple of good ideas somewhere in between. Listen on to hear about: Robo-jockeys in Memphis, nuisance phonecalls in Bristol, a new way to stop car thieves, anti-genes, pampered mussels in Plymouth, prism specs, a British spaceplane, superconductors, Japanese musical fish farming, healthy sugar from apples, fingerprinting bacteria and drunk bears in Montana.

S3, Ep 2: "When the Sun Goes Down" - Final part of walking the Lambourn Valley Way (UK) in Berkshire. From Lambourn to Uffington White Horse plus top 15 Berkshire facts

S3, Ep 2: "When the Sun Goes Down" - Final part of walking the Lambourn Valley Way (UK) in Berkshire. From Lambourn to Uffington White Horse plus top 15 Berkshire facts

For series 3 of my podcast about long distance paths and walking in the UK, I tackle the Lambourn Valley Way in Berkshire along with three friends in the summer of 2021. A 20 mile walk through the beautiful English countryside. This episode features the second and final part of the walk from Lambourn to Uffington White Horse and beyond.

Lambourn is called the Valley of the Racehorse,  and so in this episode we find out if my speculative bet on the gee gees pays off, also find out whether we make it to the pub in time for dinner and then back to the campsite before the sun sets. The team also read out the top 15 Berkshire facts.

I'm trying to complete a self contained LDP in each of the 38 counties of England. Berkshire was my 6th county. I'm hoping that my podcast series will inspire others in the UK to walk a long distance path (LDP) - there are over 1,500 routes to choose from, check these out via www.ldwa.org.uk for more information

For series 3 of my podcast about long distance paths and walking in the UK, I tackle the Lambourn Valley Way in Berkshire along with three friends. A 20 mile walk through the beautiful English countryside. This episode features the first part of the walk from Donnington Castle to Lambourn. The aim was to complete the walk in one day.

Lambourn is called the Valley of the Racehorse, so as well as the logistics for the walk and chat along the way I also interview Will from the Jockey Club to talk all things horseracing - what are gallops, how frequently do horses train, the impact on local economy of horseracing and does he have any tips?

    Ep19 - Hot to Trot

    Ep19 - Hot to Trot

Bobcat Goldthwait inherits a talking horse and half a brokerage firm. The talking horse convinces Bobcat to participate in insider trading which makes him money, but then loses it when the horse tells him to invest in oats, which he does.  Then they get the money back plus girlfriends by winning a horse race together.  Dabney Coleman I guess plays the villain but also could have not been in the movie and it wouldn't have mattered. If we're not making a whole lot of sense on this one, it's not us.  This one was baffling!

The Mob, The Mafia, and The Man Season 3 Episode 17

    Guest Mike “AMBRO” Ambrosecchia

Drug Dealer-Trafficker-Addict. Those are the names that described Mr. Ambro’s life until he hit rock bottom. Being poor as a young child, he hustled to earn any money he could, building up to running a huge drug networking outfit (and several other businesses) to losing it all and becoming homeless. Hear how he managed to continue (to his detriment) by escaping the heat most of the time.  John Alite, Mike Ambro, and Mike Dowd connect some dots and describe how their paths crossed back in the day in and around the old neighborhood.

The Sports Betting Series: Part 4 – Sensory Overload

The Sports Betting Series: Part 4 – Sensory Overload

This episode examines how gambling and sports betting companies keep us betting, despite the odds being against us. One of their primary weapons is that they have a better scientific understanding of our brains and senses than we do. They barrage our senses with sights, sounds, and smells, all of which almost imperceptibly encourage us to stay. Of course, the longer we stay, the more we bet.

This has been true for decades, from the casino to the racetrack. However, with the advent of modern technology, these tricks have progressed from the slot machines onto our smartphones. The best user experience designers turn our screens into a labyrinth of eye-catching and alluring activities, but still with real money at stake.

Home alone, staring at such well-designed interfaces without distraction, is dangerous. But simply being aware of this goes a long way in avoiding any trickery. So, this episode is very much worth your time!

Episode Seven - 3rd April 2002 - Klass, Arson and Lars Larsson

Episode Seven - 3rd April 2002 - Klass, Arson and Lars Larsson

Strap yourselves in as Russ and Mark delve into what turns out to be the worst episode of Tomorrow's World they have ever seen. Roger Black, Kate Humble and Adam-Hart Davis present an absolute disaster-packed shambles of a show, featuring metal detectors, horse whips, atrocious décor and that secret ingredient: crime. Hopefully you'll have more fun listening than we had watching.

(By the way, we were plagued by technical issues, so apologies for any problems you experience with the sound quality. However, we have no excuses for the editorial quality.)
